I don't really understand. When I pre-ordered this game and when it was released, it was simply known as Microsoft Flight Simulator. The idea was that it would be constantly updated and it would be the ongoing version for the foreseeable future. In 2022, a "40th Anniversary Update" was added, and the game suddenly changed it's name to "Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition"... this wasn't what I originally purchased. Now, Microsoft have a new version, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. I can't help but feel that I was missold the game. I bought a sim that would be the base game, with DLC, Updates and patches added going forward, but it seems that they have shelved that idea, renamed this version and added a new version of the game that I have to shell out another £70 for... Don't get me wrong, this version is really good, and I don't have any issues. I just can't help but feel cheated by the game studios when they release a game and concept, rename it 2 years down the line and then replace it for a newer version and charge me for the priveledge. Why isn't it DLC?

After 2,549.1 hours of playing this game I have finally decided that now is the time to post a review. My review? It's a pretty good game. My final verdict: "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020: the only game that ends up costing about as much as what it simulates."

Microsoft Flight Simulator is overall an amazing game. In terms of graphics, it cannot be beaten. The map is detailed and very accurate to real life in most circumstances, and its always fun to fly over your favourite place or your home city. I personally enjoyed flying over the beautiful mountains of Queenstown New Zealand. When it comes to gameplay and the cockpits, not all buttons work, which is expected, as it is more off a "sim-cade" than a fully fledged simulator, such as DCS. Modded aircrafts can be easily added to the game, and in many cases, depending on the aircrafts developer, the mod can be such high detail that every button in the cockpit has a purpose! There are of course mostly paid models, but if you know where to look, you can find some very good ones for free! The sound design in this game is excellent. I spent most of my time flying the Airbus A-320, and the sound when you go full thrust for takeoff, and roll along the ground approaching v1, theres nothing like it. It really just helps immerse you in the experience. Overall, it is a great game, but the physics are not 100% accurate or realistic, which is why I have given it the title of a "Sim-cade". Even with all of this positive feedback, a lot of the experience has been broken and ruined for me due to something that has been happening to so many people, the "install/update loop bug". This bug has been out for YEARS, and still they have done NOTHING to fix it. When i first purchased the game, it took me a full 20 hours of having the game open trying to install it. The games install would reach 93%, then the download sleep would hit 0mbps, and then it would drop down to 76%. Once it reached 93% again, same thing would happen. The download speed would reach 0mbps and the download would reset to 76% all over again. After spending a week trying to download it every day, and watching SO MANY tutorials, I eventually found that limiting your download speed on your computer would help the issue occur less, and it worked!!! I was so happy to finally play the game after 20 HOURS of restarting the download due to it LOOPING. Even now, while writing this review, I am unable to play the game due to an update that was added to the game a few weeks ago, because now when installing the update, my download just does the same thing as before, it loops. This wasn't just an issue on my end, as I was in contact with someone last year when installing this game who was having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Its such a shame for such a great and enjoyable game to be ruined by a bug like this. But, if you look past that annoying bug, MSFS is an extremely great and memorable game and experience for sim-pilots and aviation enthusiasts alike! 8/10
