Maybe a little undercooked of a thought, but what I've gained from this story, in short, is: Be kind to yourself. Even in the face of incorrigible trauma, reconciling with yourself patiently, even in the mundanity of the day-to-day, is a success. Solid, short and, at times, unnerving. Recommend.

The first playthrough of this was quite incredible. It's more of a piece of art than a game though. You play as something like the main character's inner voice, and your job is to "be helpful." You also get several options to be mean to the character, which if you do too many times results in a bad ending. This is so far an amazing concept. The dialogue itself made me extremely uncomfortable because it mirrored the exact obsessive thoughts I used to have. Thoughts that would often be extremely mentally draining despite being illogical or repetitive. All in all it is a nice portrayal of mental illness. Where the game is lacking though is its volume. It took me about 5 minutes to get all three achievements. Before checking how many achievements there are in the game I'd try over and over again to find some "hidden secret" despite there not being any. For example there is a section where you can type in your answers. The character is mentioned to be afraid of the latter "o." I tired many times to spam the letter during the playthrough, thinking it would lead to her mental breakdown, or to the same bad ending again, but to no avail. It felt disappointing to be honest. If you add an "enter dialogue" option into a game it feels a cheap for the only acceptable inputs to be "Yes/No." Or when seeing a corpse while being asked "what do you see" and typing in "your dad" it does nothing. I with the game rewarded creativity more. Either way a very cool concept, amazing atmosphere, and incredible dialogue, but not enough content. It feels like the kind of game that should have so many hidden secrets. I'm really excited to play the dev's other visual novel though and hopefully there's more there.

A very brief depiction of how mental illness can look through those who suffer it. The line asking you to not diagnose them is very heartbreaking. As much as I myself love labels for categorisation, it is something that is more harmful than helpful to those who need help. Misdiagnosis and unhelpful medication are both results of such a rigid system. And I love that a game exists that talks about it in such an honest feeling way. My only issue is that it's so short that charging for the game feels wrong. But if the dev believes they should be paid and I do so, then that's on me.

I didn’t plan on writing a review of such an extremely short game, but I think a game like this is truly worth talking about. In just 15 minutes, it perfectly shows how social anxiety disorder and mental illnesses develop in many people, and the problems this can create in their daily lives. It tells the story of a girl who goes out to buy milk. That’s it—just a girl who constantly talks to herself, overthinks every single action, how people might see her, what she should do. She even counts her steps and overanalyzes her smallest movements. Everything feels absurd and exaggerated, but that’s exactly how people with anxiety experience things: the feeling that you can be judged for the tiniest detail. When she enters the store to buy milk, she forgets what she’s supposed to do, and her conscience has to remind her that she needs to go and pay. She becomes extremely nervous and even mentions something about a rehearsal, as if she were practicing what she’s going to say. She sees the cashier as a monster judging her, and she’s sensitive to every little detail. Once again, she has to patiently remind herself what she needs to do. I especially loved the section where the game speaks directly to us, the players. This could be interpreted as us being the new medication that actually works—not schizophrenia, but a real, valid treatment. The dialogue there is incredible. I loved that you have to type “No” correctly: if you write it in lowercase, the game tells you that you’re failing the narrative structure; if you write it in uppercase, it tells you not to shout. Once again, it focuses on the smallest details that trigger her anxiety, even something as simple as the letter “O.” Then there’s her mother, whom she also sees as another monster. She feels oppressed in her world, by her own mind, and this is something that happens constantly. As someone who has experienced social anxiety, I can understand many aspects of this work and how difficult something as simple as calling to book a haircut can be. You create a script in your head, you want to say everything perfectly, and if you mess up, you feel bad, guilty, uncomfortable—and you overthink that action for a long time. I feel that this game portrays those feelings in a perfect way. But… Is the milk inside a bag, or is the bag inside the milk inside the bag inside the milk?

Mental illness in video games gets represented so poorly overall. Here we have a cheap, short story. That not only presents it with respect. But also conveys it with horrifying accuracy.
