6.5/10 - A beautiful atmosphere, but underused narrative potential. Banebush is far from being a bad game. I really enjoyed its art direction, atmosphere, Russian voice acting, and use of Slavic folklore. The opening immediately drew me in, and I genuinely thought the game might become one of my personal favorites. Unfortunately, after discovering all of its endings, I was left wanting more. Despite the choices on offer, most playthroughs remain largely similar, and several conclusions felt more like variations of the same ending than genuinely distinct narrative paths. For a game that encourages multiple playthroughs, I would have liked to discover far more new scenes, different sides of the characters, and revelations capable of changing my perception of the story. The unsettling atmosphere works very well during the first playthrough, but quickly loses much of its impact when you have to repeat the same sections. Once the initial mystery has faded, the game does not develop its horror, mystery, or folklore enough to maintain that sense of tension. Some of the achievements (particularly those requiring you to repair the radio multiple times within increasingly strict time limits) also make achieving 100% completion feel more tedious than rewarding. That being said, I still enjoyed my experience. The visual identity is striking, the world has genuine charm, and Vaska the dancing cat definitely deserves a special mention. I simply wish the narrative had been as rich and ambitious as the game’s aesthetics. A charming interactive creepypasta with some excellent ideas, but one that would have benefited from greater depth and more meaningful branching paths.

I finished Banebush and I'm thrilled! The art style is simply gorgeous-dark, atmospheric, and very unique. The story and narrative are truly captivating. And the coolest thing is, it's a debut project. For their first games, the guys have achieved an incredible level of quality. It's clear they put their heart and soul into it. Wishing the developers a confident start and success in their future games!

You arrive at your deceased granny's house in Eastern Europe/Russia and get to choose who to offer your sorry ass to: some unknowable chthonic horror or the local thugs. Funny how this felt so nostalgic. And there was so much red in the game that when I finally looked away my own walls were dripping with cyan and turquoise I left the cat dancing in-game to run to the store. I ended up losing all track of time. I found I'd been AFK for a ridiculously long time when I got back. Hey, at least I got an achievement I found it a bit boring and fast. But the style and music more than made up for it. I'd recommend it - with that caveat
