Quite an enjoyable "Mini" game, even though this one is developed not by the team behind Mini Metro and Mini Motorways. What I personally really liked about Airways is that it doesn't necessitate any dirty tricks like Metro and Motorways do in order to score relatively high (1000+). In Mini Metro deleting tracks / trains and reusing them from one busy location to another, then deleting again and abusing quick respawn was pretty much inevitable. In Mini Motorways in order to score high you practically must "control" the random spawn by placing roads in small diagonal blocks or do similar tricks to block the spawn around critical locations and force it somewhere you want it to be. I absolutely despised that and stopped bothering to 100% that one. It was a really annoying playstyle, but without using these tricks it was not possible to score high for corresponding achievements. In Mini Airways, however, using the upgrades at your disposal and simply managing the planes is practically all you need. Yes, it becomes a bit boring after a while and yes, all waypoint upgrades are pretty much useless in a long run, because colored destination points switch constantly, so there is not much practical sense to build a long chain that guides the planes from the border of the map directly to the airport. You need to constantly adjust to everchanging destination points, swap landing and taking-off directions, etc. But still no dirty tricks here, just you doing the managing and deciding what goes where rather than constantly destroying and rebuilding railroads or spending road blocks to surround buildings so that something doesn't spawn right where the exit is. So all in all I can recommend the game if you are looking for some casual managing experience. Achievements requirements (50 / 150 planes per level) are also very manageable once you get a grasp of things.
The true successor to the Mini Metro and Mini Motorways. No other game has come as close to the vibe and satisfaction that the Mini games brought than this. And yet this game brings a unique style and gameplay loop that is all its own. The minimalist aesthetic, the music, the game flow, it's incredibly satisfying. Each round in an airport starts slow and chill, but before you know it you're handling so many incoming and outgoing planes at once that it becomes a huge challenge. Thankfully end-of-day upgrades help a lot as the difficulty increases. Each real-life airport map brings its own layout, obstacles and challenges, some even having their own weather and historical events. Whether you're an ATC fan of you've never heard of one, this is an extremely fun and stylish puzzle/strategy game that anyone can enjoy, but absolutely you cannot miss it if you're a fan or Mini Metro and/or Mini Motorways.
Ff someone says this is an easy calm chill game, they would be wrong. When you find the zone, it can be. Have to say it has some of the best game bgm I have heard. I often however find it frustrating. Why can't I trace the entire route vs the general direction. Why can't I assume that the pilots have enough sense to not fly into each other. There is fun to have, but I often find there is a fair bit of frustration as well. I want to love this game, the premise seems super fun an amazing, but I find if I had a controller, I often would want to chuck it at the monitor. Maybe I suck, maybe I am expecting too much, but the one thing I am sure of is that I am glad I bought it, and maybe after a day or two when I cool down, I will be back to try again.
