Initially it's hard to figure out what the game's supposed to be played like, a big part of it is the exploration, so the best advice to give would be to not build your home base in the starting area, a central hub gets unlocked later, so don't build up too much in the beginning because you're going to be moving your base soon enough.

Got Mudborne thanks to my love for the dev's other game, Apico. I love both, but Mudborne improves a lot on the shared mechanics. I really enjoyed that the mushroom math didn't really leave offspring results up to chance, and that a lot of the late-game perks make 100%'ing the game very enjoyable. If you like cute frogs, puzzles, and a good plot, this game is for you. Also I'm #1 Chauna fan. I wish I had endless shiny things to give them.

Extremely relaxing and beautiful game but also a little demanding in terms of (very basic) math skills you need in order to progress. Loving the trippy dream world. Only big gripe is: extremely wordy for a game about some frogs. Yeah I get it, the story is supposed to be somehow epic, but you can also do that with little to no words at all. Next time please try that. If I need to read another diary of a frog scientist #3's intern, I'll go drown myself in the Spawning Pools. Oh wait, I'm a frog and I can't read. Ribbit.

I was looking for an idle creature breeding sim when I came across Mudborne. Thought it was cute and bought it (on sale too!). When I booted it up, I was a little surprised that there was a whole world to explore (that's what I get for impulse-buying I suppose) and that it was not much of an idler. But it was not an unwelcome surprise. 50 hours and 77/77 achievements in, I can say I croaking love this game. The genetics system and collections (frogs, frog variants, mushrooms, and bugs galore!) tickled my brain in all the right places. The lore was deeply interesting, the humor was just right, and I could tell that a lot of love went into this game. Honestly, I probably could've finished the game faster (including 100% completion) if I played through the story first and discovered everything later, but breeding froggies was just way too fun for me haha On top of all that, it's just so cute! Pls pls pls read the frog descriptions! My favorite is probably the Weeny Sponge but they're all such delightful lil lads. I do have some criticisms. Definitely get the faster walking speed mod if you're impatient (eat the bugs too, they make you faster). Maybe the full pause in books one if you don't want to miss time windows while checking your objectives (dusk and dawn are a little short). But these issues don't really detract from the game, because it provides you with tools to get around faster and pass time quicker. Here are some tips I found really useful! - Don't forget your chair!!!!!! It makes time pass by really quickly! If you lost yours somehow (totally not me lol) you can buy another from an NPC for cheap :) There are some out in the world too; you get your first one for free - RESPAWN WITH R! No need to walk back to the ponds. I totally forgot about it (don't be like me!) - You can stack trait multipliers! Dunno why I thought you couldn't but you totally can (don't be like me!) I bought this game during its introductory sale and really, my only regret is not paying full price for it. It's not expensive at all, and they donate part of their earnings to environment and amphibian conservation groups. Might buy another copy to support :D I'll probably check out Apico too, and I'm hoping it's as every bit a good game as Mudborne is
