My Friendly Neighborhood is a really special Mascot Horror Game. It's very different from what you normally see in this now overdone genre. The gameplay is fast paced and continually exciting throughout the game's runtime, and it offers a wide variety of different play styles to keep each playthrough feeling fresh. On top of that, the game sports a strangely well done story that asks some genuinely interesting questions about the nature of happiness, which really shocked me. I mean this is the same game genre as Garten of Banban. I guess my main problem with this is that it's not scary, like at all. It could be my personal desensitization to this type of horror, but I really never got scared. The save stations were also a tad annoying on my first run, but I grew to appreciate them over time. Ultimately, despite a couple flaws here or there, this game is an absolute blast. It's one of the few mascot horror titles to actually put a focus on gameplay and making it a fun experience, which is a huge breath of fresh air after playing something like Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. And the crazy thing is, the lore and story doesn't suffer because of this. You can really feel the passion behind this project, and I'm completely here for all of it.

Ok, im not gonna talk about the gameplay, too many people have done that. instead i wanna talk about its story. My Friendly Neighborhood is a pure, great example in rejecting the tropes of mascot horror to make a truly meaningful story. sure, it doesn't seem like anything special, but i think it's so refreshing in the world we live in, where mascot horror is slop youtuber bait about jumpscares, basic corrupted children's stuff, making you scream, and hidden lore. My Friendly Neighborhood is straightforward and doesn't attempt to be that scary, the emotional core with Gordon and Ricky and the TV show is much more meaningful than anything that could've came about primarily focusing around the horrors of the puppets and the set.

I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of Resident Evil style games. This was a very fun game, and the story was interesting. However, my favorite aspect of this game, is probably the voice acting and the characters themselves. I absolutely loved listening to all of the different dialog lines from the characters. It really brought a lot more life to the characters, and I really appreciated that. I do wish that the ending was a little bit more climatic, and it felt slightly easy towards the end. Granted, I've played lots of RE games before, so I know how to conserve ammo and make the most use out of the storage boxes. Overall, this was a very fun game to play, and I'll most likely come back to revisit it in the future!

An interesting mix of old and new that takes the gameplay sensibilities of survival horror classics, and marries it with more recent mascot horror theming. Gameplay draws influence from classic resident evil, with Resident evil 4's inventory management, sure to please fans of classic survival horror. The narrative of the game is actually quite touching, and has enough little lore bits to appeal to mascot horror fans. If you're uncertain, pick it up on a sale and give it a try!

Don't be fooled, this is not a mascot horror game. This is just a really great resident evil 7 like. I especially recommend it if you need something to scratch that resident evil itch. Just please for the love of god, DON'T ever play on friendly mode. I'm not saying this because I think it's too easy, I'm saying it because the mode is bugged and if you grab any cheat tapes on it then you will be locked out of 100% on your game save and will be forced to delete your save file.
