What most people are complaining about right now isn't wrong: The game does its utmost to be difficult for the player to understand, to figure out what to even do to make anything work. The tutorial starts out somewhat hopeful, but just suddenly stops after telling you what stockpiles are. Or maybe it bugs out, hard to say. In other words, the tutorial gets you maybe the first 5-10% in when it comes to understanding how to do anything. Of course, it does NOT tell you HOW to actually define what to put in a stockpile. Or how to set what a room should do. You gotta figure it all out yourself through trial and error and a lot of clicking around. But this isn't like Dwarf Fortress where you can draw upon decades of online guides. So you'll do most of that blindly. And once you have it somewhat figured out, you struggle with the game's default settings for rooms (which are often nonsensical, such as all production jobs being only priority 1, or almost all stockpiles being set to store EVERYTHING by default). Or the game's AI being sometimes very weird (everyone fights to their death always, even children!). Or the uniforms logic preventing NPCs from equipping ANYTHING except the specified items - don't have the specified gear? Too bad, now the NPC won't wear anything in that slot. Many issues along those lines. It is a complete mystery to me why the dev decided to release such an initially confusing game without proper tutorialization, better default settings and better AI in some regards. This game should NOT have left Early Access when it did. However, if you can somehow overcome all of those issues, what awaits you is a quite atmospheric and chill colony survival game that I can actually recommend, because the foundation is rock solid. Just be aware you are in for a rough start or should wait for improvements.

the game really needs a tutorial, an ingame codex or something. The wiki is not up to date either thanks to the recent update. IMO Dwarf fortress was more accessible, thanks to its functional wiki. Still good fun, its just not intiutive to get into.

In short: Odd Realm has my recommendation! Solid and fun colony sim, with z levels, unique races with unique play styles, cute art, and a cool dev :) I love colony sim games- spending hours in dwarf fortress, rimworld, and any other of these type games I can get my hands on. If you enjoy these styles of games I think you will be happy. I have been watching this game for years now, playing it in little bits so as not to burn myself out too much before it's "complete". I recently have been dumping more time into it now that launch is closer and I am very happy with the outcome. I particularly enjoyed learning how to manage the Gwdir racial abilities. The dev Sleipnir is responsive and active on Discord and makes changes/bug fixes based on player feedback/suggestions. Is it perfect? No, there are some features I would like to see added, but so far Sleipnir has delivered on his promises and while this is soon to be 1.0 I think it's complete enough to provide hours of enjoyment "as is" already. Cheers!

Odd Realm is a wonderful colony management sim with loads of quality-of-life features, an intuitive interface, and very appealing visuals, all taking place in one of the most unique universes I’ve seen. In addition to the above, the sole developer is incredibly approachable and works tirelessly to improve anything that may be lacking. Definitely worth any price, and I look forward to the future of this incredible game.

I dont recommend this if you like simple colony sims. This game is ridiculously complex to learn and navigate, nearly dwarf fortress tier. Personally its ruined it for me and i cant bare it. But, i do see theres alot of quality here.
