"So I shredded my gnome and backed it up with the door to my castle through a pedal..." Y'all, if you have even the slightest interest in making music, if you've been put off or intimidated by DAWs or other aspects of music production, or if you think you just don't have the sauce, you've gotta try this game, because all of those statements are absolutely true about me and now I can legitimately say that I have written a song that, to quote what one person I shared it with said, "absolutely slaps." Offbeat introduces you to concepts and aspects of making music at just the right pace to get your head around them, and just when you're itching to try something new, hey, you can afford a new toy that makes weird noises or does something fun to said weird noises, or you can upgrade one of said devices to let them do a new thing that you can immediately start throwing into your music. It walks you deeper and deeper in and by the time you realize you can open things up in the sequencer for greater creative freedom, you actually know what to do with said creative freedom. I've wanted to make music for years, I've fooled around with things like nanoloop, but this is the first time I've ever managed to put something together into anything even resembling an actual composition. It's a fun game but it's also genuinely one of the biggest creative breakthroughs I've ever had.
