Probably the most carefree fun I've had in a long time. Even in 2026 this game is beautiful.

I'm gonna be honest here. As a die-hard fan of Overlord (the Light Novel/Anime), I searched to see if there was any game based on it. Then I came across this one since they both share the same name. At first, I was like, "Damn it." But then I looked at the description, videos, and screenshots on the store page and thought, "Hmm… maybe this could be fun." So I bought it. I finished it with the good ending route (even though I was planning to go for Velvet, but I liked using the brown minions more). Honestly, I played nonstop for 4 days; missed my classes, work, and other important stuff; just to feel like an omnipotent king. I ♥♥♥♥ you not, this is one of the best games I've played in the last 6 months. (If not for Expedition 33, I would've said the last 2 years.) Maybe there are other similar games out there that are better than Overlord (the game). But for me, this was my first real experience with this type of mechanic where you control minions. Even though the controls sometimes felt kinda janky, this game came out in 2007. Expecting perfection compared to modern games would be stupid on my part. I enjoyed the heck out of it. The story was relatively simple yet filled with dark humor (which I'm really into). And the ending’s final section was great! (Not telling; if you wanna know, just play it.) In the end, I enjoyed the game way more than I expected. And you know what the best part was? It actually felt like Overlord (LN/Anime). Because you're a strong king with loyal minions doing your bidding. If someone like me searched for the Overlord LN/Anime game but found this and got disappointed; just try it out. You don't have to trust a random stranger's review. Just try it for an hour or maybe a bit more. If you don’t like it, just refund it. And this game goes on sale all the time. Right now, it's $2.49 USD for me, and I think I bought it for even less. So it's not expensive at all. Okay, if you're still reading my review, you're just wasting your time. Like dude, COME ON!! Just try it out, okay? And with that, I’ll say goodbye. I'm gonna go buy the sequel now. Overall, it’s a solid 8/10 for me.

This game was my childhood. I dreamt Overlord, I breathed Overlord, I even wrote my first fanfiction in the Overlord universe. I played so many damn hours of this game as a kid that when I saw its release on steam I actually wept. Though I am now an adult and my ability to pay attention to games has decreased massively, I still look back at this title with almost reverence. What is Overlord? Overlord is a game where you play a villain with a army of little demon creatures and go around acquiring power in an attempt to rule (or save depending on your moral choices) the world. Through your adventures you gain new armors, minions, spells and abilities, unlock new lands to explore and conquer, and finally get a girlfriend. Its a ton of fun even to this day (despite me only having around 5 hours of gameplay) and I fully recommend with every fiber of my being that you get this game, you download this game, and that you give it your full attention and see what becomes of it.

"You choose ALL!" - Gnarl, upon the player choosing all 50 gremlins to tear apart a singular sheep. A very unique half-RPG, half Real Time Strategy/Puzzle game. Picturesque is one word to describe it. Unforgiving, perhaps even Evil as well; but not in the ways you'd expect. This is an exceptionally old game - released in 2007 - that still runs really well on modern machines. The premise is simple, you are awoken from your slumber and tasked with showing the world the true evilness in your heart. Gameplay To bring back Evil, you'll have to gather, upgrade, and command an ever-increasing squad of minions that possess different skills; they have different damage types, defenses, and terrain traversal abilities. You may select the types you wish to command at once, split them into groups, perform micromanaged movement, or simply point them to the thing in need of being smashed until it is gone. You can play this with a mouse and keyboard, but I preferred using a controller with dual thumbsticks. The challenges of the game pertain to not losing all your minions in the many puzzling challenges the world of Overlord has to offer. While the Overlord character that you control has powerful strikes, armor, and offensive magiks, not losing your life is preferable; and you'll definitely lose it if you don't have enough minions to keep the [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4azillbpqU]tavern full of drunken dwarves off of you. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3489965831 In the event you do lose all your minions, you'll be forced to retreat and gather life force off of lesser creatures in order to summon more servants. Depending on your patience and skill, this can happen quite easily, as minions may get one-shot by telegraphed moves, area of effect attacks, or flanked and overrun by garbage if not placed strategically. This can be avoided by creating battle groups in your squad and moving them manually to dodge attacks as well as perform backstabs, or at least this is what I'd tell little me several years ago before he ragequit the game the first time. Art and Evil Design The game's artstyle is quite pleasing and aged decently, save for some close ups. Some minion types can wear all sorts of pillaged equipment off the battlefield, and the audio design is nice. The writing is devilishly bad - in the more negative sense. Most creatures are based off Dungeons & Dragons and Lord of The Rings, and the entire personality of the game is that of blatant parody. I cannot recall much of the soundtrack. There's an Evil twist or two in there that I enjoyed seeing. If the choices given in the game don't seem actually Evil, there's a reason for that. One huge con for this game's design is the extremely slow movement of the player character, thudding about in heavy armor. This makes the previous point of having to farm upon reaching a fail-state much worse. If you lose your squad, it's best to just quit the game and restart from an auto-save. Again, Evil design. Specially since to upgrade your Overlord's weapons and armor, you need to smelt and imbue them with an alleged surplus stock of minions ! You'll never get them upgraded if you play nice with the game's rules as your losses will snowball fast. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3489965743 TL;DR Unique, quirky, Evil puzzle game with RPG elements. Some good quotes; some bad quotes. Will punish you harshly if you play absent mindedly, non-zero chance of causing a ragequit. However the reward of watching your hard earned army of rainbow goblins diligently rip apart many of the tough foes that oppose you, specially when you cast strengthening magic, is certainly there.
