It's alright. Also, why is there an achievement for having 100 hours of playtime when it takes less than 1 hour for a single playthrough?

A truly authentic and nostalgic romp thru a Saturn classic. I wish they did this with more Saturn and Dreamcast games. The graphics and gameplay are identical, yet vastly improved. Lets get the same for ZWEI AND SAGA!!

Rating: ★★★★ - Great Time Played: 1 hours Difficulty: Normal Gameplay: • Smooth and responsive rail-shooter mechanics with a focus on dodging and aiming. • The lock-on targeting system is satisfying, though to a point where heavily relying on it seems to be recommended. • Enemy variety is good, requiring quick reflexes and prioritization of targets. Story\Dialogue: • The lore is intriguing but not deeply explored—expect a simple story with more emphasis on gameplay. • Theme focused on a post-apocalyptic world where humans recover technologies from an old age. • Dialogue is sparse, with most of the narrative being conveyed through cutscenes and environmental design. Graphics\Music: • A decently remastered version of the original with updated textures and lighting. • The art direction stays true to the classic while feeling fresh and modern. • The soundtrack is an orchestral reimagining of the original score—nostalgic and epic. Before you Play: • If you experience screen tearing, make sure to turn V-Sync on. • Learn the control on the first mission and feel free to replay it till you get used to them; Make sure to get familiar with the lock-on missile mechanic and the ability to fire from behind and beside you. • If adjusting audio, know that the cutscenes will still be super loud. • Take the time to learn enemy patterns and dangers; it will make later levels more manageable. • Expect the boss from level 4 and 6 to be difficult. • For the Level 4 boss, The Guardian's Arms can only be damaged by gunfire, not by laser\missiles. • Best played with Keyboard and mouse for fine precision.

THE REMAKE IS A STRAIGHT UPGRADE OVER THE ORIGINAL I just played the first level in the original (through an emulator) and the remake back to back. The remake attempts to mirror the original content on a 1:1 basis. You're flying through the same world, shooting the same enemies, with the same gameplay. The original game ran on a frighteningly low 320x240 (4:3) resolution. Just being able to play the game at a high-def 16:9 resolution is a big improvement already, if nothing else. Additionally, the world geometry is much much improved. In the opening cutscene, the main character boards the dragon and flies off over a lake. As the first level starts, the remake shows the shore fading away. The original game on the Saturn had such low processing power that the developers had to omit this. In the first section of the openeing level, you'll note that the building ruins are visible much farther off into the horizon. The original game did what it could, but the Saturn had severe technical limitations. I have massive respect for the work put into the original game, and playing the two versions back to back helps to contextualize the remake. The opening cutscene is somewhat awkward and poorly performed, but the awkwardness makes more sense when you see what the Saturn version was like. Also, the analog controls in the original game are weird. The dragon's aim snaps back to straight-forward when you re-center the analog stick, which feels really bad. I prefer playing the original with the 8-way pad instead because of this. The remake fixes this behavior. IF YOU DON'T LIKE RAIL SHOOTERS, YOU WON'T LIKE PANZER DRAGOON Also, some critics dislike the game for its short length. It's a rail shooter though, and that's just what the genre is? Rail Shooters and Shoot 'Em Ups provide densely-packed experiences. When you sit down to either genre, you're getting a well-polished, short experience. Many gamers aren't prepared for this. A 60 hr JRPG is actually just proccing the same random encounter in a dungeon over and over again to farm XP. That 60 hr JRPG has maybe 12 hours of content spread out to be 5x bigger through required repetitive content. Rail Shooters have the opposite problem. Imagine you play a 12-hour Ratchet and Clank game. Rail Shooters take the same amount of work in gameplay and environment design. However, instead of being stuck in a single Ratchet room for 10 minutes, a you fly through a Rail Shooter room in 10 seconds. Sonic Team has bemoaned the amount of environment design work that a 3D Sonic level requires because Sonic runs so fast that it's all gone in an instant. If you don't replay Sonic stages several times, why did you buy the game? It's like playing one lap of every track in a kart racing game, shouting "I beat the game!" and never coming back. If you don't plan to replay a Rail Shooter, don't buy it. These games tend to be about an hour of content, so replaying Panzer Dragoon once every couple years is not that hard. REZ HAS MORE ELEGANT GAMEPLAY DESIGN Panzer Dragoon has a little bit of extra clunk that later games (namely Rez) simply removes. Rez handles the side-turning automatically, which is just a little more elegant. Rez also removes dodging, forcing the player to shoot down all incoming projectiles. Rez also removes the spam fire shots that historically dominated the genre; the focus on target locking makes enemy pattern recognition more critical to the gameplay. Panzer Dragoon is an intermediary step in the Rail Shooter genre, transforming games like After Burner and Space Harrier into a truly cinematic experience. The light flight-sim elements here reflect this ancestry. Rez is a purer version of the Rail Shooter, taking the new things from Panzer Dragoon and distilling them further. ...I need to go play Sin & Punishment after this for comparison. A NOTE ON CONTROLLER SUPPORT I had to unplug and replug ("reseat") my controller cable while on the main meny to get the game to recognize my controller. So keep that in mind.

Never played the original, so I can't complain. Game's a lot of fun and the gameplay brought me Star Fox vibes, aside from a few differences. You can pick it up, put it down, pause it... it's one of those "chill and zone out to the pew pew" type games.
