I figured I've played enough of this to throw a review out there. Your best period spent with this game will be the first time you download it. All the tables are unlocked, and I strongly recommend you plan out some free time beforehand so you can binge as many as you want to play. The Williams tables in particular are all excellently and well-realized. I know there's some flaws (check the reviews of each pack) but having played Theater of Magic and Monster Mash in person, I'd say they handle almost as well. I just a have three gripes. First, and most minor, is that you're stuck with their animated graphics on each table. This is mostly an issue on the classic tables, which, as I said, are well realized, but the CGI animated figures on each one sort of break your immersion. These tables had charmingly janky and well done practical features that I wish were at least offered as an option to have toggled on. Monster Mash, in particular, I miss the janky little Dracula figure who would pop out of the coffin. This in itself is my smallest complaint, and that's why I lead with it. Second, the social aspects of the game feel like unnecessary bloat. I understand this game needs SOMETHING like this to drive engagement, but it's just not well realized. The figurines and posters you can unlock for your personal pinhall room seem neat at first, but you can't really spend time there, and it's not like you can share it with your friends. The seasonal awards are all either so generically made they FEEL like AI gen graphic resources, or they actually ARE. I feel like maybe the seasonal events would be more interesting to me if that wasn't the case. Regardless, I don't feel the draw to grind Pinball Pointz or whatever to unlock any of that. Third, and the most important, there's *no Freeplay*. The closest you get is being able to play standard 3-ball rounds on your machine of choice, but after each time you have to slog through a results screen and a little loading until you can start a new round. The loading is (on my pretty new machine) minimal, a couple seconds, but it starts to become annoying as you keep running rounds. I really wish there was a "freeplay/endless" mode that I could play that wouldn't track their objectives/XP nonsense and would just let me explore all the features of a machine. Honestly, it's faster for me to explore the two machines in the barcade near me than the copies I own on this platform. There are, of course, other quibbles. The DLC pricing is a little ridiculous, to get all of it off-sale would cost you roughly half the price of a new PC. Your virtual pinhall can only display one machine (whatever you played last). If you *like* the objective sets/campaigns that some tables have, not all of them have that. But I'd say largely I don't regret engaging with this game and have enjoyed the tables I've bought. I would just recommend to wait for a discount and to use the trial period of access to all of them to gauge which tables you want, and prioritize those. In summary, plan out a free day before you download this, scope out the tables you want, and buy them on sale if you can. If you can get past the cheesy CG models on the tables, the poorly implemented seasonal play campaigns with possibly-AI-slop rewards, and *no option to freeplay a table,* then Pinball FX is a pretty good time. If you find a Williams table you *really* like, then I recommend trying to seek out some arcades IRL that might have it, because there's no real match for the feel of the real thing.

Superb, highly detailed pinball tables with lots of very cool mechanics and I like the animated characters that appear on pretty much every table as well. The graphics are really good and the music sounds amazing(with a headset). I didn't see any slapped together garbage pinball tables yet. The power-ups are a cool mechanic to "cheat" but in a fun way and to achieve things on tables you otherwise likely would not have been able to.

For old-school physics and comfort, Pinball FX3 is my go-to version at times. Pinball FX has some beautiful remastering work on tables. However, I have one comment. The physics of some of the older games really requires some tweaking. The bumpers and flippers on some of the tables are way, way too elastic. If you buy table DLC, definitely get legacy versions because training on FX3 is a lot smoother. Then you adjust for FX's weird physics. I really wonder sometimes if Zen Studios ran any regression tests to ensure the physics translated well enough. If you're a flow player, go for the Williams tables. Some of the best real world tables have been that brand (especially from the 90s).

Not without it's flaws, but Pinball FX is unmatched in the niche world of pinball.

I'm correcting this review after being informed that the arbitration clause was present from the beginning, and I had apparently missed it the first time. That's a strike for me, but that said: if you don't want to accept arbitration clauses, avoid this game for its EULA. Otherwise, I'd say it's a really great pinball platform with a ton of tables including originals and classics (some, obviously, better than others). Previously I would have gladly recommended this game, but as of August 16, Zen Studios decided to update their EULA to include a binding arbitration clause. This is unacceptable, especially after having put so much time and money into the title only to be effectively locked out after the fact because of a new, objectionable EULA, unless I commit to playing in offline mode through Steam. Shame on Zen for such a stupid move. At the very least they could update the client to allow local-only play so I don't have to accept bad terms without warning. Until that happens (or the EULA is reversed), I'm calling this title a no-go.
