This used to be called Pinball FX3 until name change. And i suppose that name change is all part of what is going on right now: Change, constant change and not exactly the good kind either from a consumer perspective but change nevertheless and if you wish to get into pinball it is worth taking a closer look right now. To put it briefly: Competitors are bringing in either smaller arcade-y pinball games focused on some theme OR going the exact opposite in trying to re-create the actual feel of old gas station flipper games. The walls between games are set. And then in the middle you got Zen Studios FX games with the latest 'FX' (until that one too changes name) being the 'current game'. I reviewed that earlier - it was 'ok' - heavier engine, very heavy install foot print compared to older games. Did not go forward with it but did not bash it down either like some do who want to have licensed tables ported from earlier games. I don't even entertain that idea anymore in current licensing climate. I understand it's really expensive licenses Zen Studio has got here. So what should you actually buy then? Depends a lot of your taste so lets start with the old stuff: This game got a decent selection of real world classic flippers if you insist on those but want a bit of that arcade-y feel to it and not 1:1 simulation well then FX Classic delivers the best experience. I personally don't care at all about this category and have not bought any tables/only got the free fishing game. The rest? This is where this game is unbeaten as the content is the best there is out there hands down even in 2026 but you need to hurry -> Tables are going out e.g. Family Guy is already taken out due to licensing and more will follow. Tables are some what cheap again on sales and if you want a good collection this old thing is still the best overall game to have the tables in. Got some 67 hours on this and i still play this from time to time when i want Pinball. It got it all that i am interested in and i don't see anything better on the horizon. On the contrary i expect pinball games to become worse now. Release year 2017 might sound terrible but don't get distracted by it. Tables have been introduced slowly during the years and complexity and looks can be noted from them. Older core tables are more simple, licensed tables look more dashing. By the way some of the best tables are the original 'core' tables that came with the Zen Studios own tables like Tesla, V12 etc. All of them worth playing even today. But hurry if you want to have some of those great licensed tables like Doom, Alien, Portal etc. They wont be around for long.

After only 3hrs of gameplay, I'm hooked! Considering this is a free game (initially), there's a lot of content available from the start. However, you will need to purchase "tables" to participate in certain online events. So far I've purchased 2 bundles and it was well worth it. The game/tables look awesome and the gameplay is exciting and fun. And of course I love that it's controller friendly.

I like the gameplay and the feel of it being the real thing although I miss having the flippers on the side of the tables.

Since I now have a few tables in common between Pinball FX and FX Classic (Formerly FX3) from buying a couple of legacy bundles I can better compare the 2 and, like most reviewers, prefer the Classic older version. While the tables look the same to me on my older monitor, the flow is better on FX Classic and it's easier to do well. Both have their pros and cons, but to me the biggest advantage of FX classic is the navigation...it's just better. The newer FX version seems clunky and awkward, while the older Classic version is super easy to navigate even when just using the limited controls on my cabinet. Any unlocks given after a game are right there when you finish and are easy to apply, and visually all options are clear and obvious without the clutter found in the newer version. Even exiting the game is easier in the old one! IMO they should have kept this interface and just upgraded the tables when needed within this version. It's like companies don't actually play the products they put out, so they don't see the problems from a player's POV.
