it took me 39 hours to finally beat the game. there's no permanant upgrades. i just got more familiar with the game and used what the game gave me to it's highest potential. it was beautiful. in no other rougelike have i been able to come up with so many different janky builds and in no other rougelike can you so thuroughly break the game and still lose. it's still challenging even after you get the perfect set of mutations and cells. which again, i find beautiful
Imagine someone took Spore's cell stage and went "I can make a good, full game out of this" and you've got Primordialis. There's a lot of interesting things you can create, plenty of sometimes bizarre interactions between cells that allow you to pull off fun things, especially when you add in mutations and combo cells (For incredible sustained melee abilities, combine toxin and spike cells, and get the mutagenic poison with conversion into basic cells. Even armoured cells can't survive since they mutate into basic ones pretty fast) This is a game that's made to be hard. I've seen a lot of complaints about the second area, and I think that the issue is that it's the game's standard difficulty, but the first area's pretty easy on the whole so people get a false sense of confidence in their, frankly, pretty poor build. I've been able to get through the second area with simple jet-acid sprayers, charge cell-lightning guns, basic homing spikes, and even melee builds so long as I exercise a modicum of intelligence. The first area you can get away with most any build.
Is so dope but the progression.. needs work. Early game is repetitive yet inconsistetnt its like its backwards. Id prefer if I could maybe choose my first 5 cells. I dont like killing the first enemy with pratica;lly nothing everytime. Id rather not have to kill and struggle against the same enemies dying before it gets interesting. The game has so much but so little to start with each round,
