Bought it because I saw a review that said "first VR anime". Well... not quite, to be honest, I wouldn't call it that. It's more of a very simple vr visual novel without the gameplay part. The story is kind of eh. I mean, it's not actually that bad, but the conflict is introduced too late into it so for the most part you're just wondering when is something going to happen. As I should have figured by the screenshots on the store page, it's more about watching the anime girl be an anime girl on this single environment. It's kinda cute and all but that's not really enough substance... so I was getting kinda bored. Thus, i sat on my piano while watching this. And who would have guessed, I had a surprising amount of fun punctuating the story with an improv piano track while essentially blindfolded, trying to fit the emotions she was trying to convey. Gotta say, i freaking nailed sadness. I wish i had recorded that. Anyway, that made the whole thing worth it for me. Plus, it was like a dollar. I guess that's worth 71 minutes of distraction. I think there's another ending but i don't think i can sit through all of it again just to pick the other choice.
Because of the VR week done by steam, i bought bunch of games to try out, including this 'game'/VR anime-ish. And I'm surprised this one is one of better ones i tried out so far. I have 81min in the game and i believe i finished whole game with 2 endings. I could most likely return it but not planning to do this as i really did enjoy this experience. Without spoiling any story, the game started as kind of light, slice of life kind of genre, but got really fast to being philosophical and "meta". (Dictionary definition fits very well here: "Meta means about the thing itself. It's seeing the thing from a higher perspective instead of from within the thing, like being self-aware.") This games makes you wonder. I really do recommend it to pretty much anyone who had at least any contact with anime and/or manga as probably this will be the only entry barrier, though i will try to recruit people outside of this community as well :) If i had to point out what i didn't like about this product are 2 things: - Controls. It's not as big of a deal as most game you just sit there and listen/read, but first moment i opened the game i had frustrating few mintues trying to work out how i actually start a game because some genius though it is good idea to set menu so you have to move stick AND click at the same time to proceed with moving trough menu. That is my first. Not in VR genre but overall in game dev ever.... simply they could use some reworking - But again, the second you do learn it it's not that big of a deal especially that you don't really use it trough game. (but still could be done better :P ) -Choice, trough a game there are few scenes you make a choice/pick something by aiming your head at it. Without spoiling there is especially one important scene that after resuming a scene, it drops you right to the moment, and while looking straight your head aims straight on the target and before you know it, it already is picked without actually having time to even read what was written. But you can easly replay the scenes from the menu so it's not as big of a deal -Translation. Overall it's good, it makes job done and as a person who understood mostly everything from the japanese it really wasn't a big deal but they are not 100% correct, though they do keep the final effect. Also text might be not 100% synced in every moment and you might notice it especially when there is more text showing up in one moment Overall really good experience, relaxing, especially i loved 'virtual worlds', really relaxing. But story wise very interesting as well. I am only not sure if it is worth full price. Animations were VERY good as well. Lux smooth animations, face expressions are really good, it took some work for sure, but still it's most of the work and in the end it's not so long experience. I would think twice about buying it full price, but on sale? especially as big as we have currectly (-70%)? It is really good value in my eyes! controls, choice
It's an engaging story. There's been many takes on the theme of the story, but I would have you experience project lux for yourself on sale. There's some issues with the Virtual Reality play-ability, it was made in the early days of Virtual Reality. Overall Review: What makes you, you?
The good: - Decent Graphics - Decent Story - Good 3D models - Short - Great motion capture and facial expressions - No movement required - Quick shortcut to reset position The bad: - Pricey without discount - Cloth physic is... meh - Short - VR controllers are basically useless - No movement making my VR body feels awkward and distracting when I sit a little differently on my chair The conclusion: I intended to refund this immediately after finishing it considering my financial situation currently, but it's too good to refund so I decided to keep it
a 90 minute vr anime where you sit and talk to this anime girl (completely linear and 1 decision that ends the story about 10 minutes early) and nothing else happens. but it left me wanting more somehow. i want more of this. primary negative is the price, but it is what it is
