Playing Resident Evil 5 brings back great memories of my older brother. He used to play this a lot when I was seven years old. He would give me an unplugged controller, but I still had a blast thinking I was actually playing the game with him, haha. That memory really stuck with me:)
Not perfect, but still a good RE game RE5 is nowhere near perfect, but I don’t think it’s a bad game in the franchise either. I actually miss this version of Chris in RE7 and RE8, and we desperately need Sheva Alomar back. Gameplay and difficulty The versus achievements are a nightmare, and Professional mode can be brutal. You basically die in one hit, and some sections are so chaotic that avoiding damage feels almost impossible. I’d honestly recommend playing it on Normal or Veteran. The game feels much better balanced that way. Controls might feel old now If you’ve been playing the recent Resident Evil remakes, RE7, RE8, or newer RE games, the controls and camera movement might feel odd at first. This is still an older game, so don’t go in expecting modern RE gameplay. Performance Definitely a good pick during a sale. It runs very smoothly even on lower-end PCs, or basically a potato. I first ran this game on a Compaq CQ40, so yeah, it can run on almost anything. Gold Edition improvements One good thing is that they removed a lot of QTEs in the Gold Edition. God, those QTEs were bad. Final thoughts If you’re coming straight from the remakes or the newer Resident Evil games, you might end up disappointed. RE5 is more than a decade old, and it shows in some places. Still, I had a good time with it, and I’m eagerly waiting for an RE5 Remake. Hopefully, it actually happens someday.
I opened Resident Evil 5 expecting bad controls. Because a lot of people were hating on the stop and shoot mechanics. tbh i don't hate it at all. it actually gives the game a unique experience combined with the "piss filter" it really gave me a nostalgic feeling for the Xbox 360 days. I played the game with one of my friends and it was really chaotic in the best way possible. We were arguing over materials, rushing for every ammo pack on the ground and spamming emotes nonstop. And every time Wesker showed up we got hyped especially when he said "7 minutes" that was so peak. If you haven't played Resident Evil 5 yet, i genuinely think you should. it's a really unique experience.
A great, but flawed fast paced, action-focused CO-OP experience. It's still worth playing with a friend. 7.5/10 Resident Evil 5 is a fun, story driven 2 player co-op game with an emphasis on action instead of horror. It utilizes Resident Evil 4's mechanical blueprint for gameplay and it's great, but there's a few negatives that drags it down. Gameplay Pros: The gunplay is solid, offering a great variety of options to choose from each weapon class. Nearly every gun is viable and fairly balanced when compared to one another. You can also upgrade all of your weapons in the shop using the gold dropped by enemies and gains earned from selling the collectible treasures. The enemies aren't bullet spongey and they constantly drop loot when you defeat them so resources aren't very scarce. The main game features 6 chapters and the levels are paced well. There are also additional multiplayer game-modes you can experience after the main story. Gameplay Cons: All of the boss fights and mini-boss fights are GARBAGE!! Del Lago and El Gigante basically return from RE4 and you fight these bosses during turret sections. You're just holding M1 and occasionally dodging whenever the prompt to do so comes up. For other bosses, you're either blasting their glowing weak points or defeating them with some scripted QTE button mashing. The 5-2 boss is BROKEN on this port of the game, and CANNOT be killed using the flamethrower the game gives you. I ended up pulling out an RPG and obliterated it after wasting over 10+ minutes. You can one shot most bosses in the game with the RPG which is great for speed-runs. The boss fights are a big downgrade from RE4 which was disappointing. Another issue with this game is the inventory. You only have 9 slots and that's all you get. I carried 3 guns, ammo for those guns, and healing or utility items for the last 3 slots. You will run into a lot of discarding or trading situations with your friend which can hinder the action. This is a big issue early game. Later in future playthroughs, you can unlock and purchase guns with bottomless mags, so you won't have to carry ammo anymore which is great. Story: Save the world by stopping Wesker's doomsday plan, he also aura farms a lot during combat and cutscenes. He 100% carries this game and is probably the best villain in RE. The other two villains you defeat before getting to Wesker are stereotypical, and the narrative treats them like fodder trash. TL;DR Great action-focused, CO-OP game that is 100% worth playing with a friend. The boss fights are trash and the inventory system is small, but the game makes up for these shortcomings with late game unlocks, great main villain, and the amount of fun and laughs you will experience.
