Resident Evil 6 is the ultimate action movie simulator disguised as a horror game. I honestly don't understand why people hate this game so much. If you can look past the infamous "giraffe" in the game's logo, you are treated to four different campaigns packed with enough explosions to make Michael Bay jealous. The story was clearly written by a team of hyperactive toddlers fueled entirely by espresso. While the survival horror is completely dead, it completely makes up for it with hilarious co-op chaos, Leon Kennedy doing physics-defying backflips, and Chris Redfield being so ridiculously buff he could punch a meteor out of orbit. Let's not forget the ability to slide across the floor on your back like a tactical penguin while popping Tic-Tacs from a pill organizer to heal from rocket damage. The plot makes absolutely no sense and the QTEs will give your mechanical keyboard permanent PTSD, but suplexing zombies and drop-kicking mutants with your friends makes it all worth it. Buy it for the accidental comedy, stay for the absolute cinematic nonsense. 20/10, I still don't know who Ada Wong actually is.
Honestly, I only started playing this because of my now-ex boyfriend (who’s a diehard fan of the RE universe), but I ended up having the absolute best time! We co-oped every single campaign and chapter together and it’s been such a blast!! Some chapters are definitely better than others— Jake’s and Ada’s campaigns are my absolute faves, though Leon’s and Chris’ were cool too. I also noticed that there are some areas in the game, especially in Jake’s campaign, that have so much potential if they were developed further. I really enjoyed the game a lot, I just wish Capcom would give it a proper remake! The game is fun, but imagine how it would look with modern graphics... please Capcom make it happen! Hehe. Definitely recommend playing this with your better half, your friends, or even randoms.
Game is a 10/10 for me, 11/10 with a friend. It has many imperfections, but there's nothing out there that plays quite like it either. Badly organized pro tips for having fun: - Get in melee and use melee attacks. Shoot enemies in the head or knee to open up unique attacks; almost every enemy in the game has a melee prompt from multiple angles. Some bosses do too. - Roll backwards, forwards, roll around on the ground. Roll sideways up the stairs and through vents. Aim + A button (X on PS controller) to roll around, keep holding aim to stay prone. Tap sideways to roll around. - Hold B (or Circle on PS controller) and yell at your friends. Yell "NO" when they tell you to open a door. If you're at the door, spam the button until you start yelling. - Left Trigger + Right Trigger together do a "quick shot" which takes pressure off and opens up enemies for melee follow ups. You get different animations for these ones VS the headshot stagger prompts. Also good for hitting small critters it's hard to aim at. Use these moves, explore your options. - The healing item refills your stamina (see: melee meter). Using them next to a friend (both sprays and tictacs) heals you both for an empty square of health, plus whatever is currently partly-empty. - Many attacks can be "parried" with the right timing of a melee prompt. More unique counters, animations, fun. - I like all the campaigns, but I think the order from best to worst is Leon > Jake > Chris. I'd play Leon > Chris > Jake for a first go through. - The inventory system sucks and gets worse when you have a full arsenal. Throw away ammo/grenades you don't like if you want room for other stuff, you'll replace it later. You can overflow your healing container up to 17 held at once (then it cannot hold more until you are at 11 charges or less). - I've been playing it here and there for 13 years and bought it on 3 separate systems, but it goes on sale regularly for 5 bucks if you don't believe anything I'm saying and think it'll suck. Pretty low asking price for you and a pal to try it for a couple hours. - Again, don't backpedal while shooting. That's boring and sucks. Jump backwards while blasting guns akimbo to avoid damage better and have fun. Run at enemies after you stagger them to suplex their heads into gelatin. - Speaking of, many guns have alternate fire modes or ammo types. While aiming, hit Y/Triangle and it'll switch styles for you. Leon's pistol grows a second pistol. Hope this inspires you to have fun!
