A grindhouse somewhat PS1 visual styled horror title that has some ok moments but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the earlier and similar Bloodwash or the more action focused Night At the Gates of Hell by the same publisher. You start your night getting called into work at the video store because another employee has called in sick, as you go through your routine you hear more about the missing people from the area and a detective informs you that they all had a membership at your store. It isn't long after that that you are captured by a pig mask wearing man carrying a meat hook and must find a way to escape from his dungeon. It's a linear and short title that works well enough that I mostly enjoyed what was there but there is a bit less setup and buildup to your encounter like there was in the similar title Bloodwash and once you get to the fourth chapter out of the five the quality and atmosphere goes down. Chapter four has you escaping a sewer as you are chased by the killer while you try to activate five levers to open an exit door. The problem is I don't think I've ever played or seen a game that does boss or unkillable enemies chasing you handled that well (Hellknight probably the closest it gets) and this one falls into having all the issues that come with the mechanic. The killer isn't really in the environment and just kind of goes away after you run for a short time if you do run into an area where he spawns in, he is easy to run from and you can take two hits from him and will heal if hit once after a short time that combined with frequent checkpoints removes any tension making him more of an annoyance as is often the case in these situations. This sewer chapter is where you will spend the most time and, as sewer levels tend to, its not a visually interesting location. The fifth chapter has your encounter with him after you find a gun and this is also a very poor encounter where you can just stand in a corner and shoot as he runs back and forth at you until the fight ends. Not a bad game but from the other similar games by the publisher I've played, Bloodwash had a better atmosphere and buildup, more character perspectives, a better final encounter with the killer, and no overly long section of running around in circles trying to find levers to pull. I had a lot of fun with this game. While not a long game, the story was pretty great for a cheesy horror game. I absolutely adore the art style. I'd recommend picking up on a sale if you can and add it to your spooky selections. 🎃 Spook Meter 🎃 "Here piggy piggy" - (less stressful and more fun)

Most slashers I've played are set in the US, but this one being in the UK was a fun change. I liked the mechanics of the game, the art and design looked great. I couldn't beat the flappy bird game, I may have been too intoxicated.

Ever wonder what it would be like to manage a video rental store while a deranged killer is on the loose? Well, look no further because Rewind or Die is here to fulfill that oddly specific fantasy! This game takes the best of Puppet Combo’s VHS-inspired horror and boils it down into a bite-sized, blood-soaked experience. I mean, who doesn’t love the idea of checking out Jurassic Park for the hundredth time while also trying to avoid becoming someone’s next rental? The gameplay is tight, although nothing to write home about. Go to x location, find Y item, input item, move on. The atmosphere is deliciously retro, and let’s be honest—where else can you get a pixelated slasher experience that wraps up faster than a ‘90s B-movie? There are multiple endings to discover, and if you’re an achievement hunter, you’ll be pleased to know that you can hit 100% in about 3 hours. 3 hours of horror-themed nostalgia, sprinkled with just enough gore to make you consider renewing that Blockbuster membership you never actually had. In short, Rewind or Die is a love letter to low-budget horror, complete with grainy visuals, a killer soundtrack, and more jump scares than a VHS tape with tracking issues. It’s short, sweet, and a bloody good time. If you're a fan of retro PSX style horror, please do yourself the favor of checking this out. 8/10, would rewind... and probably die again.

I've been on a puppet combo rush lately and after playing for the first time Cannibal Abduction (this game is one of my favs and the closest to why I loved Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Glass Staircase (Mid game IMO), Nun Massacre (love the lore), Blood Wash (I wished it was longer, definitely one of the more messed up villain lores), Night in the Gates of Hell and Christmas Massacre on the Xbox. The game is pretty nostalgic of when Blockbuster used to be around with funny references to Titanic, Godfather, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, Halloween and other classic movies as you try to work as a clerk dealing with rude customers, a rude boss, and a killer on the loose. When I first saw the store screenshots I thought the villain for this game would be aggressive but the game is actually more forgiving (there's only one chapter that isn't a scripted chase which involves the most out of memorizing the level layout) and more of a puzzle game with a beginning that involves minor management. Plot is the closest to a B movie horror as you can get and I wanted to know more of the actual setting and minor characters including why the killer became the way he is. I'm also hoping if this store setting is brought back again, it involves more management and freaky shenanigans since it has potential to be really scary. I would say overall to either buy it full price or wait on a sale if you like VHS styled horror. If I had one more critique the chase music could've been improved, it doesn't fit the vibe of being chased at all by a killer. Still loved the concept & game but hoping the next project by the devs will be expanded on better.
