More than 500 hours in RIDE 2 and I finally decided to write a review. If you don't love motorcycles, maybe this game isn't for you. But chances are, if you do, you'll keep reading. Warning: if you just want a game you can relax with, and you have no patience for digging through options and controls to figure out what they actually do, this game is not for you. If you're new to motorcycle games that aren't pure arcade -- reduce your speed before a corner or you'll crash -- remember: you're not driving a car. I did forget one option that makes the game manage your speed for you: Auto Brakes. So use that if you must. RIDE 2 is not a simulator. It's easy enough to have fun, but hard enough that you can actually feel the difference between using the front brake and the rear brake. --------- The Best stuff --------- The controls, and the many stupendous tracks, such as Macau, Stelvio, French Riviera, Kanto and North Wales. --------- The Bad stuff --------- The grind for a new bike and upgrades is hard and slow. --------- The WORST stuff --------- The game will eventually screw up your save data and ask you to start over. It happened to me a few days ago. I lost every bike I had. What the game still remembers is all the progress made in World Tour events. This means that if you managed to become the champion on a track, nothing will take that away from you. --------- Backing up your RIDE 2 save data --------- Locate the game save folder: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Milestone\Ride2\Saves Make a copy of the files named Career and GameProgression. You'll need those if your progress gets corrupted. --------- Why I still love it --------- Even with the save-game problem, I can't give up RIDE 2 for 3 or 4 because the controls are just better here than in the later games. In RIDE 2, you can use your brakes while going into a turn. In 4, doing that usually means having an accident. In RIDE 3 I find myself running wide much more often than in 2 and, on tracks like Macau, when the bike touches the wall, instead of making the rider crash, 3 lets you scrape the bike along the wall. I'd much rather actually fall off my motorcycle, hit rewind and try again, like in RIDE 2, than have the game present an accident as if everything is almost fine. RIDE 3 makes these mistakes feel almost consequence-free... in a very sloppy way. --------- Some advice --------- Always upgrade your motorcycles. The computer opponents are hard even if you play on Easy, so play on Very Easy and don't feel ashamed about it. In Quick Play, after choosing a track, turn on Perfect Trajectory. This will warn you when you're going too fast into a corner. For simplicity, especially if you're a beginner, turn on Joint Brakes, so you can use a single button for both brakes. Turn on Semi-Automatic Transmission so you don't have to worry about shifting gears. Use Rewind so you can undo accidents with the press of a button. The RB button makes time go backwards until you press the Rear Brake (A button). This lets you correct your mistakes and, hopefully, finish the race alive. And if, for some reason, this isn't obvious: don't even think about playing a RIDE, MotoGP or Isle of Man game with a keyboard. Get a controller or don't play these kinds of games. RIDE 2 has a manual, so check it if you're unsure about the controls. --------- Final thoughts --------- With the game being able to screw up your progress -- saved-game data can get corrupted and end up being deleted -- you'd probably expect me to give RIDE 2 a bad review. But I still like this game very much, so I'll just keep playing it. If you think RIDE 2 is for you, get it on sale. I find it very much worth it.
It's refreshing to see a game that reminds me of the first grand turismo but with bikes, it's challenging in a way that makes you thread the needle at times but that makes it satisfying as well and looks good enough to hold up. I have to say you want to have a controller for this as your fingers will cramp up with a keyboard and for some reason a controller is way more responsive in this game, specifically in cornering. Also be sure to add the free DLC's to your library once you get it, they were not automatically added in my case and the Steam overlay is causing issues, stuttering and the game minimized to desktop.
RIDE 2 is also the same kinda like Forza Motorsport but with bikes, its also feels kinda the same like RIDE 1. This game is good and have a nice feel to it for too but sadly like the first RIDE game this game have the same respective boring carrer mode which drags way to long without much changes (a DiRT 4 or GRID 2019 typ of career mode): Pros: + bike selection is good imporved over the first game + 30 tracks which is good and have the double as much as the first game not bad + soundtrack is alright but nothing special like the first RIDE game + game modes in career mode: Race, Track Day, Head to Head, Time Attack, Drag and Endurance and the new game mode Perfect Prajectory Cons: - carrer mode is a little bit boring (after beginner you seen everything the game have to offer all tracks for example and most bikes too) tracks repeats a lot of times over and over and over again even with so much tracks, it lacks smaller layouts and reverse variants - same problem like RIDE 1 sadly not fixed, bots can be weird at times and makes the game a bit less fun and unbalanced mostly if you use the most powerfull bike you can beat them easy on highest difficulty but if you want to play and try every single bike then there are a few problems with like half of the bikes that feels to slow in the straight to even catch up The game on its core is great imporevement over RIDE 1, the driving is very fun (simcade style) but the thing why. Unlike the first game even if its repective as hell i still can recommend it for all its imporvements it did other than the way to long streched career and balance problems with bikes. Buy it in a 90% sale if you want to check it out for a few hours a arcadish/simcade motorscyle game its worth it for that and still capture a feel and vibe to Tourist Trophy and a feel of Forza Motorsport but with bikes.
