ACE Team’s brand of historical absurdity returns with Rock of Ages II: Bigger & Boulder, a sequel that gleefully doubles down on everything ridiculous, creative and chaotic about the original, and mostly succeeds. If the first Rock of Ages was a strange experiment that somehow worked, this follow-up feels like the studio saying, “You thought that was weird? Hold my boulder.” Once again, you roll a massive stone through handcrafted stages, smashing through enemy defenses and castles while building your own fortifications in return. But Bigger & Boulder polishes and expands on the formula in all the right ways. The physics are tighter, the level design more ambitious and the roster of boulders (yes, each with different stats and special abilities) adds a welcome layer of strategic depth. The environments - inspired by different art movements and mythologies - are more vibrant, detailed and surreal than ever, turning every match into a moving museum of chaos. The game’s sense of humor is as sharp and absurd as always. Its cutscenes, rendered in that distinctive paper-cutout style, parody everything from Romanticism to modern pop culture with deadpan brilliance. The soundtrack - a reimagining of classical compositions - keeps the energy high, while the pacing between offense and defense feels smoother and more refined this time around. On the downside, the game’s online mode can be inconsistent, with occasional lag and matchmaking hiccups, and the AI still struggles to pose much of a challenge. But the improvements in visuals, variety and overall flow make this a clear evolution over its predecessor. Rock of Ages II: Bigger & Boulder is funnier, sharper and better balanced than the original; it's a joyful, artistic descent into madness that somehow turns rolling rocks into one of gaming’s most eccentric pleasures.

Rock of Ages 2: Bigger & Boulder Fun but not as Good as the Original Worth trying! Rock of Ages 2: Bigger & Boulder is a more challenging sequel with many improvements in gameplay, graphics and soundtrack, but unfortunately, it also comes with many flaws and changes that make the game feel a bit more frustrating and different from the first part. Personally, I think this game was launched with a gameplay that’s more focused on the multiplayer rather than the main campaign, due to several drastic changes in the latter that didn’t quite fit completely, as well as the addition of a customization system, a ranking system, and more multiplayer mechanics. Gameplay: Challenging single-player campaing with changes and adjustments to the original mechanics Art: Polished art style from the previous game with a greater amount of detail Music: Amazing soundtrack that combines remixed versions of classical themes with good original compositions Achievements: Difficult achievements very focused on multiplayer matches Gameplay The gameplay is considerably more difficult in this sequel, as many of the original mechanics have been changed. The rock you control during attacks now moves at a faster pace, which is a positive improvement that enhances the game’s overall rhythm. However, its maneuverability has become much more difficult, with a very limited braking capacity and poor turning ability. Personally, it was difficult for me to adapt to this change in gameplay. Also, at first it was frustrating to get used to the game’s new rhythm and map design. Now, most of the levels have gaps that lead to falls into the void, adding extra difficulty to the maps, not to mention the enemy obstacles and traps. Another major change lies in the options available to both the player and the enemy when defending their bases. Several defenses have been modified or removed entirely, and at the start of the game, the options for building your base’s defenses are very limited, resulting in matches where you can barely protect your castle gates. Meanwhile, the enemy already has most of their defenses unlocked and a noticeably larger amount of resources to buy them. Also, unlocking new defenses is quite slow and depends on how you explore the game’s levels rather than following a linear progression. Now, the Time Trial levels are more balanced and no longer require using every shortcut in a stage. It’s now easier to earn all the medals with fewer attempts and less difficulty. Art and World Design This sequel maintains the same excellent level of design and animation in both characters and environments. However, the map design is completely different from that of the original game, maps are now much longer, sometimes even more confusing due to their layout, and in some cases even poorly designed when it comes to shortcuts and areas that require momentum to progress. Music and Sound effects This game’s soundtrack it’s simply amazing. It’s one of the most noticeable improvements in this sequel, finally including interesting classical tracks that are well-known in popular culture, while also featuring new arrangements and original compositions that blend very well together. Multiplayer As with the first game, it’s pretty difficult to find online matches, and unfortunately, many achievements require playing on multiplayer and ranking up online.

Simple game, needs strategy for Medusa only. The rest are easy and the bosses are easier than actual levels. Huge like for the content and nostalgia it gives.
