For my 100th review, I had to review a very special game. Saints Row 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I have played a lot of games. Before I talk about the game itself, keep in mind that this is one of the worst PC ports you can come across. But don’t worry, there is a community made mod called Juiced Patch that fixes almost everything. It makes the game play the way it should on PC and adds several quality of life features, such as uncapped FPS, faster loading times, removing the orange filter, and much more. The community also restored the console exclusive DLC, and it is fully playable on PC. I highly recommend installing Juiced Patch + the DLC. If you have modded games before, you already know what to do. If you’re new to modding, don’t worry, it’s very easy. Just download the files and drag them into the game folder. Follow any YouTube guide, and it should only take about five minutes. The patch also brings back the co-op mode. Thanks to the patch, I was finally able to 100% the game, including all of the collectibles, without a single bug or crash. It feels great to be able to revisit one of my favorite games on PC whenever I want. That said, I truly believe Saints Row 2 is the best crime game ever made. Stilwater is an amazing city. Looking at the map, you might think it’s just an average sized open world, but it isn’t. The city feels alive and is packed with interior locations that you can explore, many of which are not even marked on the map. It’s an incredibly fun world to mess around in, especially in co-op, where you and a friend can create endless chaos. The story is also excellent. It has the perfect balance between serious moments and over the top fun, which is what made Saints Row so unique. Sadly, Saints Row: The Third leaned too heavily into the goofy side, and the series gradually lost some of that original balance. And let’s not even talk about the reboot. A lot of people label Saints Row 1 and 2 as GTA clones, but that comparison is often oversimplified. They share a genre, but Saints Row have its own identity rather than just copying GTA. I also don’t think it makes sense to dismiss games just because they compete in the same space. Having multiple strong games in a genre is a good thing, it pushes all of them to improve. You can enjoy both GTA and Saints Row without needing to pick a side. More competition = better games. If you want to play a classic crime game, give Saints Row 2 a chance and see for yourself why so many people still love it.
