Seed of Evil is a compact story-focused RPG that blends traditional role-playing mechanics with mystery, exploration, character interaction, and mature themes. Developed by Hasoyua and published by Kagura Games, the adventure follows Anna as she travels through Somonden, a strange Water City where troubling events are beginning to affect its inhabitants. What initially appears to be a straightforward journey gradually develops into an investigation, with Anna discovering increasingly unsettling details about the city and the forces influencing it. Somonden is an important part of the experience because the city is divided into upper and lower areas, giving the adventure a sense of progression as new locations and characters become accessible. Exploration is generally straightforward, but conversations and discoveries provide much of the motivation to continue. Instead of presenting every mystery immediately, the game slowly reveals information about its setting and characters. This approach works well with the darker atmosphere, particularly when the colorful character artwork is contrasted against the more disturbing circumstances surrounding the story. The gameplay uses familiar RPG mechanics without demanding excessive grinding. Anna becomes stronger through conventional progression, but experience can also be earned by performing good deeds. Dumped some hours into the game in 1 go and I feel I'm nearing the end of the game. Purchased on sale and I don't regret the purchase at all. Artworks are great, characters are likable, short and sweet story. I would say look for the game when its on sale since for the base cost of Seed of Evil has a lot of competition in the market. Lots of settings to choose from off the rip so for instance if you wanted a challenge in combat you could set that up, but for me its on easy mode since I'm not here to struggle, I'm here to be entertained. Has replay-ability if you want to be a true nun or explore the bad endings. Would recommend on sale. Not because Seed of Evil is a bad game, but it's short lived and most people could find a higher quality game published by Kagura for the asking price.
As basic as it is, I still think this game is pretty good as far as RPGMaker games go. The story was the highlight of the game, and everything else was designed in service of that. Obviously this includes the overall corruption and h-events / scenes. These were done pretty well, but also weren't anything too novel by today's standards. In terms of gameplay, I appreciated that losing an encounter did not end the day, as this made grinding defilement mush easier. On a more personal note, I really enjoyed the plant / ending scenes. Are there really people who like the characters' human forms more? As always don't forget the patch.
