Everybody now: "I'm the Shady Part of Me, the real Shady Part of Me All you other Shady Parts of Me are just imitating So won't the real Shady Part of Me please stand up Please stand up, please stand up?" (Sorry, couldn’t resist, but seriously now.) I’d most of all like to start by saying: I’m a sucker for this kind of game, but what exactly would I mean by that? Dark puzzle-platformers with a certain cuteness? Short indie adventures? Or atmospheric casual games with a complex story? Maybe it’s just the quiet, understated approach these games use to tackle big themes in an artful way without making a fuss. Perhaps it’s the combination of simplicity and weight, or the feeling that you haven’t just played something but been part of something special. The most important question is, does all of this apply to Shady Part of Me? And the answer is yes, but also a little no. The whole world is rendered in soft muted colors, often shades of gray, beige, sepia or dark blue, which support the emotional journey of the protagonist as she struggles with fears and inner conflicts. Overall, it’s beautiful, visually impressive, and artistically staged, there’s really nothing to complain about. I also really enjoyed the interplay with the shadow mechanics. There are several moments in the game, especially further in, where you’ll likely find yourself saying “whoa.” The puzzles are moderately challenging, they provide enough difficulty to stay engaging; sometimes a principle repeats, and there are a few puzzles that require closer attention, but apart from two exceptions, I really enjoyed them. The sound design largely serves its purpose: it sizzles, crackles and pops where it should. It’s not perfect, but it’s genuinely decent. And now unfortunately, comes the difficult part. Just to make this clear again: I do like the game and I can wholeheartedly recommend it, but in a Top 10 list, it would very likely crash around number 21, at least in my opinion. I only know Hannah Murray from her small role in Dark Shadows and I’ve never been particularly interested in Game of Thrones. And it’s not just her, the entire voice acting is somewhat off, as well as some of the things being said, which at times felt nonsensical. The story is unfortunately too abstract and too cryptic in many places and for me the balance just doesn’t quite work. The relationship between the girl and her shadow is mostly symbolic, which prevents any real depth, making the ending somewhat unsatisfying. Now, for the part that hurt me the most and repeatedly unsettled me while playing, and I say this as a player with a deep passion for music, but also as a music producer who loves video games. For the most part, the game’s soundtrack is truly excellent, well mixed and varied. The tracks that work best are the classic atmospheric score pieces and the melancholic trip-hop beats. However, there are occasionally tracks that feel too groovy, too percussive or too fast-paced, and simply don’t fit. Who made these decisions and why, I cannot understand, and I say this even though I love this kind of music, but unfortunately some songs just don’t belong in this context. Additionally, the idea that the music subtly changes when switching between the girl and her shadow is absolutely fantastic. It would have been a dream for me to be able to do my work on something like that. But as it is in the game, it works better at some times and not so well at others, which pulled me out of the moment several times and disrupted the experience. Nonetheless, a really good game. In recent years, it occasionally goes on sale for around 85% off, and if you don’t have it yet, you should definitely grab it and play it some day.

Well, if you like puzzles with a hint of anxiety, this is a good title, despite being a small game it was very well made,i like it.The soundtrack, the effects, everything is strangely perfect. It's a very relaxing and slightly scary game, I love how it develops and how it captures the player's attention. The first time I played it I hadn't paid attention to the dimension of this game, how wonderful it is, after I started focusing on it I just loved it, the immersion, the atmosphere, the desire to help the little girl reach the end of all that darkness, I really love this game!

A puzzle-platformer with excellent gameplay mechanics and puzzle difficulty (and an optional extra difficulty layer), with mediocre (English) voice acting and some seriously incoherent messaging on the topic of mental health. If your therapist ever repeatedly tells you to "just try harder" to get better, it's time to find a different therapist.

Unique game that excellently represents the suffering of having mental disorders. The environment as well as the music have their own charm and the puzzles present a well-balanced difficulty. 10/10 Everyone should play it.
