Shotgun Legend is what happens when someone plays classic top-down Zelda and says: > “This is great, but what if Link just had a *shotgun* and zero patience?” You’re a little pixel dude let loose in an 8-bit overworld full of monsters, dungeons, secrets, and the constant, reassuring sound of pump-action problem-solving. --- ### The Vibes Think: * NES Zelda * But rupees are shells * The bow is a shotgun * And diplomacy is not an option You explore screens, find dungeons, get items, fight bosses, and occasionally wonder if maybe the shotgun was **too** effective of a game design idea. --- ### Pros * **Core pitch is flawless:** * Classic adventure structure * Tight little overworld * And your starter weapon is NOT a wooden sword, it’s a boomstick. Peak game design. * Gun feels chunky in that “this is absolutely not OSHA-approved” way. * Close range? Erases things. * Far range? Still kinda hurts, like emotional buckshot. * Exploration scratches that old-school itch: * “I bet if I walk into this suspicious wall…” * *secret found, mild property damage achieved* * Dungeons are simple but satisfying: keys, switches, enemies, occasional boss that looks like a rejected Mega Man villain and dies to advanced lead therapy. * Pixel art + chiptune vibes deliver exactly the flavor of “I rented this from Blockbuster in 1993 and never returned it.” --- ### Cons * Hitboxes occasionally feel like the shotgun blast is both too big and somehow not big enough. * Game does not care if you wander into an area you are absolutely not ready for. That’s a skill issue, cowboy. * If you didn’t grow up with old-school “figure it out yourself” design, you might miss the quest marker babysitting. * Story is basically: * “Bad things happened.” * “You have a shotgun.” * “Connect the dots.” --- ### Peak Shotgun Legend Moments * Walking into a dungeon room that looks scary, panic-firing the shotgun, and watching **everything** on-screen disintegrate like you just pressed a divine smite button. * Forgetting how much recoil your brain has, charging a boss, whiffing the shot, and getting folded like a cheap lawn chair. * Backtracking through old areas with upgraded gear and treating early enemies like moving clay pigeons. * Realizing you solved a puzzle by accident via “shoot everything until one of the tiles stops being alive.” --- **9/10** A love letter to retro action-adventures scribbled in buckshot. Short, crunchy, and way better than it has any right to be for “Zelda, but with a shotgun.” Would once again step out of the starting area, pump the shotgun, and commit to solving all my problems with 8-bit pellets and questionable exploration choices.

I bought this game when searching for the cheapest games but I absolutely don't regret stumbling upon this game. Truly a hidden gem of a game, the legend of all time, the shotgun legend. Amazing experience, from start to finish. The achievements weren't an annoyance, just perfectly balanced to be doable and fun. At no point in the game can you miss achievements either which is appreciated.

If you really need a positive review to spend a dollar on a zeldalike about a guy with a shotgun maybe you should uninstall steam.

I liked it. This was a great tribute and spin on the classic LoZ. The multi pellet shotgun blasts being more damaging the closer you are was enjoyable, nice risk vs reward balance. Levels were fun, good amount of secrets, cool music, but the sound effects can get repetitive at times. Overall though, fun game 👍
