A fun cute little game, lots of birb customization and such, only issue is the skating itself is a bit glitchy and finnicky which can be frustrating at times, luckily most of the missions in the game are extremely easy so there's not much to worry about there. Overall not too bad but the skating could be better. 6/10

Not going to lie, this is the first skating-related game I've ever played. I'm normally not into them at all, actually, but after grabbing this game (after wanting it for a while) I've just had so much fun. It's also a nice change of pace. considering the dominant genres I play, such as FPSes and the like. I've seen only a few negative reviews, with most of 'em talking about the controls, but they don't seem/feel that bad for me. They aren't that janky whatsoever, and they were quite easy to grasp. (Though, I guess they were all playing with a controller, since I haven't tried that. Who knows.) And man, am I ever thankful for the ability to readjust settings like the difficulty of the balancing minigame and how easy it was to bail... Sure saved my life. I can relax while playing this game. This game has actually quite a bit of content, and at the time of review I'm not even like halfway done with the game. I've only made it to the second skate park map so far, though I have been taking my time, collecting all the collectibles and doing all the side quests that I can. From what I know, some can be left alone, but I didn't want to do that. Also, it's all birds. Who'd ever hate birds? edit: as of 1/15/25 (Jan 15) I have collected all of the collectibles. and I'm close to finishing the story sequence of Skate Heaven. this game was amazing, and I'm fully happy to come back to it whenever. This was an incredibly chill game with perfectly responsive yet floating and forgiving controls. I've used it to calm down. I've used it to enjoy california medicine. 10/10

Recommended, with caveats. It definitely fits the "cute novelty game" bill, complete with an option to "birb-ify" the character dialogue that I appreciated. You can even customize your bird and give it little hats and accessories. That said, it's still very much a skating game with a gameplay focus on mastering different tricks and maneuvers. Several of the sidequests demand a trial-and-error approach that can grow tedious and frustrating more often than not - if you want every achievement you're probably looking at over a dozen hours for full completion. This is compounded by the somewhat ungainly movement and controls, especially the grinding mechanic - without intense precision it's difficult to jump onto the wire or cable you want to grind without multiple attempts. I also wish there was a proper map system with actual waypoints and marked collectibles. Thankfully, there's an impressively generous suite of custom difficulty options (like turning off mission timers and making it easier to grind without losing balance) that generally mitigate these issues. The OST is also pretty nice, though I'm not sure if I ever warmed up to the ska punk.

Skatebird is a fun little skating game that follows a group of birds on a silly adventure to help their Big Friend (Owner). The dialog is cute/funny as you use your skateboard (and bird logic) to solve all the missions of each level. There is a large quantity of collectibles to be gathered to customize your bird, board, and mixtape throughout your adventure. This game would have benefited greatly if it had a photo mode. This is not Tony Hawk Pro Skater. The controls plays like an actual bird on skateboard: kinda cumbersome and not very good, but will eventually smooth out as you learn to master your board and set of wings. I'm glad I picked this up. If you are looking for a casual skating game, give this one a go. Best picked up during a sale. Great on Steam Deck.
