Skater XL could be much better than it actually is. The devs are really unique in their approach to ignore their playerbase, I've never seen something like this before, especially not on an indie game. That being said, it's still the best skating simulation we have to date, especially with mods there is nothing that comes close.

Looking for that middle ground between good and bad Game is abandoned by devs all stories told and is a bit janky vanilla. buuuuut.... Mod scene really, really breathes life into this game into being one of the best skate sims out, the customization, map selection, physics tweaks, just lovely. Overall, get the game, get the mods and get into it cause it is not awful at all.

It's better than skate.(4) I've purchased this game 3 times on multiple platforms, accumulating hundreds of hours free skating. As far as gameplay, good map selection (thanks mods), customizable character/board, and replay value go, this stands as one of the better skate sims to be playing in 2026. I can't speak much on Session, as it's not my preference. I can free skate anytime on Skater XL and keep myself entertained just putting lines together and editing replays. It's good sporadic fun for when you need that quick fix of skateboarding.

vanilla is meh, modded its unbeatable. the framework for skateboarding freedom and the community behind it is incredible. still hold out hoper for easy day..
