Space Gladiators is a charming and energetic roguelite platformer that takes a familiar genre formula and injects it with a unique sense of humor and personality. Developed and published by Blobfish, the game throws players into the role of prisoners trapped on the alien world of Tartarus, where survival means fighting through a series of deadly gladiatorial trials. Rather than presenting a grim science-fiction setting, the game embraces absurdity with its unusual cast of playable characters, quirky enemies, and lighthearted visual style. This approach helps it stand apart from many roguelites that lean heavily into dark fantasy or post-apocalyptic themes. The gameplay revolves around procedurally generated runs filled with platforming challenges, combat encounters, treasure rooms, merchants, and dangerous environmental hazards. Each attempt feels unpredictable thanks to the random layout of levels and the constant stream of new opportunities and threats. Success depends not only on combat skill but also on precise movement, quick reactions, and smart decision-making. The platforming elements play a major role throughout the adventure, creating a refreshing balance between action and navigation that keeps the pacing lively from start to finish. One of the game's strongest features is the incredible variety of content available during each run. Players can unlock numerous characters, each possessing unique traits and playstyles that significantly alter the experience. Combined with hundreds of items, upgrades, pets, and passive abilities, the game offers an impressive level of customization. Experimenting with different combinations becomes one of the most rewarding aspects of progression. Some builds transform players into devastating damage dealers, while others focus on mobility, survivability, or unusual special effects. This constant discovery of new synergies encourages repeated playthroughs and gives the game substantial replay value. The hand-drawn art style contributes greatly to the game's identity. Every character, creature, and environment is illustrated with a distinct cartoon-like appearance that manages to be both strange and appealing. The developers embrace bizarre designs without sacrificing readability, ensuring that players can quickly identify enemies and hazards even during chaotic battles. The colorful presentation helps maintain an upbeat atmosphere despite the deadly nature of the gladiatorial contests, making the game accessible and inviting while still providing plenty of challenge. Combat itself is straightforward but satisfying. Attacks feel responsive, movement is smooth, and dodging enemy attacks requires careful timing. As players progress through increasingly difficult arenas, they encounter a wide assortment of enemies that demand different strategies. The game consistently introduces new threats and mechanics that prevent encounters from becoming repetitive. Boss battles are especially memorable, serving as skill checks that test both mastery of movement and the effectiveness of a player's chosen build. Defeating these powerful opponents provides a strong sense of accomplishment and keeps the overall progression loop engaging. The game's structure also encourages meaningful choices throughout a run. Players frequently select between different routes, each offering unique rewards and risks. Deciding whether to pursue additional loot, face tougher opponents, or conserve resources adds an important strategic layer to the experience. These decisions make every playthrough feel personal and help ensure that no two runs unfold in exactly the same way. The roguelite progression system further supports long-term engagement by rewarding persistence with unlockable content that expands future possibilities. While Space Gladiators excels in many areas, it is not entirely free of shortcomings. As with many procedurally generated games, experienced players may eventually recognize recurring room designs and encounter patterns after extensive playtime. Certain runs can also feel heavily influenced by item luck, occasionally resulting in situations where powerful builds are difficult to assemble. The difficulty level can be demanding for newcomers, particularly during boss encounters or later stages where enemy combinations become overwhelming. However, these frustrations are generally balanced by the game's rewarding progression and addictive gameplay loop. Overall, Space Gladiators is a highly enjoyable roguelite that successfully combines platforming, action combat, character variety, and procedural progression into a cohesive and entertaining package. Its unusual humor, distinctive visual design, and wealth of unlockable content make it a standout entry within the genre. Players who enjoy challenging platformers, experimentation with builds, and repeated runs filled with surprises will find plenty to appreciate. Although it does not radically reinvent roguelite design, it refines many of the genre's strengths and delivers a memorable adventure packed with personality. Rating: 8/10

I AM THE POTATO< this game seems underrated in comparison to BROTATO but i love it less the more i play because you just level up so slow it isn't worth the grind, great game but needs a revisit from the devs to update and rebalance

This game is like Nuclear Thone, Binding of Isaac, and Hollow Knight having a baby, and since those are 3 of my favorite games ever made, recommending this is a no-brainer. Each character feels completely different than each other, the item unlocks have a huge risk/reward factor, and the controls are buttery smooth. You start with a dash with i-frames and double jump, and both are incredibly useful here. Even with the "easy" characters, the game is still really hard and with the "hard" characters, good luck! This game really deserves to be in the roguelite hall of fame due to its replayability and fun factor, but for some reason it never caught on. I played it a ton on PS4, and tried to play the mobile version (but it just didn't feel good there), and after dozens of hours, I was only able to get through the 2nd of the 5 difficulties for most of the characters.
