I'm giving this a good review because I genuinely believe in these developers and the game, however I recommend to be cautious given the games current state. I believe they have a lot going for them, the graphics are amazing, the skins are beautiful, they're constantly working and releasing new content, the networking is amazing. However, the gameplay currently feels... uninspired. Most of the (arena) games I have played look something along the lines of: spawn, portal, get shot in the back by a pistol and lose half my health, portal, get shot from across the map and die. Wait 8 seconds, then rinse and repeat. Every gun is just so powerful it makes every encounter last ~2 seconds, which completely shadows the whole point of the game: the portals. Why would I wanna try and escape from a fight, heal, then re-approach from a different angle when I can just rush in, die, and return in less time? The battle royale mode is honestly super enjoyable. They've taken every part of a battle royale I hate, and fixed it. You don't need to worry about spending 5 minutes waiting for a battle bus, looting chests trying to find a decent weapon, then just lose to someone with a better weapon and have to do it all over. You queue, drop in, and fight like an arena shooter as the map gets smaller. It's honestly great. I want this game to be great, and I believe the devs can make it great, but currently it feels like they're playing it "too safe". Splitgate 1 was great because it was simple gunplay, a handful of weapons, maps built around portalling, and focused on the main concept: portals. I really hope we see some great improvements in the near future.

For a beta game is extremely buggy. Bugs that completely make the game unplayable , unable to find matches. Meanwhile the devs are sending special builds to streamers to downplay the reality of the game. Some are saying there's a kernel level back door as well and would not be surprised based on some of the game's behavior im seeing such as hanging when closing the game and instant crashes when opening the game up. It seems like this team didn't learn much from splitgate 1 except how to do better marketing as a rugpull game. Update: if you have 13gen or 14 gen i9 you may want to steer clear of this game, definitely don't purchase anything for it as the game still has oodle shader crashes from its alpha. Update as of may 31 2025: The game is playable. Much of the things like XP not tracking , challenges not tracking, are all working now. I've personally had a good experience with the support team in making sure twitch drops carried over. Their Code system is much more reliable than what most games do with twich drops and trying to automate the receipt of the items in game. sending a code is much better and secure. There are still some issue with some of the alpha dev killer skins not carrying over to the beta and they have not had many play against the dev events. There's also still oodle errors sometimes and the game crashing on launch. There's still some scummy practices in terms of their revenue stream that look like they are here to stay. They have mythic weapons similar to Apex. These are blueprints (JUST THE BLUEPRINT no player skin), and they cost about 20 dollars. once you buy the blue print you have to spend in game, Tier 2 currency (proelium) to BUY additional features to the blueprint you purchased for 20 bucks. these blueprints DO NOT come with tracers , death effects and their reactive animations the way COD , Valorant , or Apex blueprints come ON PURCHASE. The ONLY way to currently generate proelium is to CONVERT purchased or battle pass earned split coin into proelium. The devs say there will be a way to earn it in game. it could be a direct method, another conversion or it is already in the game as the battle pass split coin to proelium conversion. The bottom line is if they are allowing you to BUY split coin to convert proelium then the direct grind of proelium will likely be unreasonable for anyone that is over the age of 25 with a full time job. The whole Mythic weapon blueprint is by far the most scummy thing i've seen about this game, and it should seriously make some people pause and think about if they even want to support a dev team that is going to do this, because as more people play the game this tells them that people are ok with the business model. That being said the game play itself is very smooth especially for mnk. If you are playing stuff like warzone/COD on mnk i would highly recommend you ditch that game for this one. The gun play is just as engaging as COD, Destiny, Halo etc. again if you currently play COD and you try to go back to it after splitgate you will notice the UNGODLY amount they actually cripple mouse and key aiming by severely hampering lateral movement / strafing in COD. The momentum mechanic in Splitgate is actually fun and it makes it fun to portal around build momentum and then slide around corners like its CS Surf... but you can shoot people. The skill expression is Very high in this game again especially if you're coming from games like BF2042/Warzone. you can launch yourself and gun people down mid air, drop portals so you pop out of the ground or fall from the ceiling onto players. As far as cheaters go. I've ran into questionable players that push me without a radar scan or me being on the minimap, but I've yet to see a rage hacker just aimbotting everyone. There's also no kill cams so if there are some rage hackers, you won't know. I am skeptical their kernel level anticheat ( redkard?) is effective, and I think it contributes more to game crashes on startup than actually catching cheaters, but the game doesn't feel like EVERYONE is cheating like over on warzone because of either Aim Assist or literally a lack of any attempt at injection detecting anticheat. Bottom line: as of May 31st I would say definitely try the game out. if you're a MnK player this is probably the best FPS game you're going to get for a long time now that Xdefiant is being shut down. I think with a serious migration of players in general and specifically mouse and keyboard players you will see the AAA studios actually make an honest effort in trying to balance the inputs or finally nerfing Aim assist in some games like COD where they are literally training wheel level help. Update 04JUL2025: this was SPG2 first ranked patch, ranked is dogdoo right now especially if you are a solo player. its heavily skewed towards playing in a 4man even if you are a mediocre 4man. it feels like there's extreme team balance in the game as well. if you are a top fragger and obj player when you solo you're more likely to only get a team of 2 competent players including yourself. also there's been community confirmed issues like not getting rank points for wins. Amount of rank points won fluctuating with no rhyme or rhythm. The core of the game is still good, but if you are a ranked grinder who grinds solo the game is probably not playable to you. Also watching Devs and "high level " players play much of ranked is people basically camping and spamming portals around objs which is essentially this game's version of the "headglitch" from cod. This obviously appeals to SP1 players, but i personally don't think this is a good competitive playstyle. movement with the portals and using them to speed up flanks routes while still sliding and breaking cameras is not being properly rewarded. Sabrask wall spam is also currently meta and extremely low skill ceiling to abuse. They also added camo challenges which are not unreasonable and the camos look decent. This part was a solid upgrade.

I never played the first game so I'm not clouded by nostalgia. This game is like halo with portals. There is a 24v24 mode, classes, perks, skins and charms, a battle pass, abilities, and movement tech. Personally I like the game, as I've grown bored of playing Halo and Cod. This feels fresh to me, though the aiming with some guns can take some getting used to. I don't like that melee aim bots for you and goes through shield walls. I feel like if melee stopped on shield walls the ability would be more useful

i genuinely think this is a fun game,i think some of the changes from the first game were unnecessary and don't work as well as the devs would hope but there are enough good changes to have a fresh breath of content compared to the first, but its an open beta and there's still the chances of things being fixed or changed.

Great movement, mechanics, gunplay, and cosmetics. Must have for arena fps players.
