It has been a long time since I last played this game. I got so distracted with others over the years that I did not get back to this until just today when I saw that the servers are shutting down as I type this. Yet I am so happy somehow because the developers adopted peer-to-peer networking to enable this game, supposedly and online-only game, to live on without needing a centralized server. Better yet, the anti-cheat is now disabled. This means I might get a chance to play this game on Linux! I haven't played this game on Linux yet because I have only been on Linux for the past few months while the last time I played this game was years ago. I wonder how many other penguins are out there playing this right now. Companies like 1047 Games will be remembered for demonstrating how absolutely shortsighted some of their competitors are. Funny enough, this move might actually encourage players to try out Splitgate 2 knowing there is now a very good chance that these titles will be well preserved even if the servers shut down. 1047 may have inadvertently solidified a loyal player base. Just... please don't squander it.
I highly recommend this game, especially team flying split ball, I have not laughed as hard and enjoyed a game as much as i have, and that's just a side game, i hope they implement more games to competitive matches and ranked, because in my honest opinion so of the games like team flying splitball, are hard to put a value on, bc the game is hella fun, but playing that side game was just like pure joy. would love to see what they do with this game, and i hope more people come back to it, like i did.
I've been playing this game for a little bit and even though I like some aspects of it its developed a similar issue to what fortnite has where the learning curve for the mechanics is alot for new players. I also have found that due to streamers and players from other games like call of duty and halo that the environment expects you to be competitive even in the casual modes. I want to enjoy it and my biggest complaint is that they put you with bots for the first 10 levels which gives you as the player a false sense of security about your abilities. I understand its to help learn the mechanics of the game, Luckily they have a training mode similar to fortnites creative mode with races and other things that allow you to improve and learn the game. They have even added things like getting free experience for completing courses which I think is a great incentive to play these modes and do time trials. veteran players of the game seem to immediately respond as the portals are opening and make it so portals are more about fast travel than fighting with said portals and at the same time they can constantly spam portals on your side and during king of the hill or any ground control map that makes grenades for portals virtually useless or simply a delaying tactic before they just come through and take the hill and you have no way of combating them. It also is anxiety filled and rage enducing when the portal locations do not let you escape from the bottom of the map. specific maps if you fall down basically have what is essentially a kill zone even if ou get on the ground there is no way back up for you unless you already created a portal at the main level. For new players this is frustrating and also many maps simply allow you to fall to your death, which is fine except your jet packs run out of boost way to quickly and cannot span even the smallest of distances at times it seems. The number of times I've misjudged thinking I had enough boost only to have the game lead me to falling to my death has been numerous. I still like the game in spite of these issues that can eventually be worked out. But I just hope they figure them out before Halo infinite and other major releases I want the developers to succeed and have the best game on the market. Hopefully playstation takes advantage and helps them on their way now that its on console because Playstation needs a halo competitor in the shooter genre and this free to play indie title may just be a hidden Gem for those on all console platforms, but especially on playstation
