This game has NOT aged well. It needs some serious graphics and control overhauling. It is NOT up to today's gaming standards AT ALL! It's also a pretty massive cash grab once you're inside. HOWEVER, if you like Star Trek at ALL, play this game. I play for a good while, get bored, but ALWAYS come back. And I come back simply because I really enjoy Star Trek and the stories in the game, for the most part, are quite good and VERY Star Trekian!!! So in summary, you are doing yourself a diservice if you like Star Trek but have never played this game. If you like Star Trek, you will enjoy this game.
Its one of those games I come back to. Constant content additions, yeah the graphics are dated but all the crazy missions and stuff. for the longest time they allowed people to crate content and submit it, as you can imagine there are some star trek fans out there that are willing to do that. The game could use a facelift but overall its a good game. Also, don't create your account through Steam go through Cryptic/Arc games. You will indeed miss out of a lot of free stuff. And some of the ships that are free are actually far better than PTP ships through the stores.
Best free to play MMO model on the market. Feels like Star Trek while you play Space missions are always very fun, but the ground missions can feel like a slog (specifically all the early content, later content is much better) End game is pretty grindy, but not as awful as other MMOs, you're not waiting for RNG drops, just doing repeatables to get high tier gear. Fairly frequent content drops Weekly events Highly recommend to any Star Trek fan
I followed progress of this game before release, and bought it upon release back in 2010. It was under Atari at the time. I liked it and even opted for life time subscription. Then it was taken over by Perfect World Entertainment in 2011. Slowly it turned into game of chance, just like any other MMORPG out there. I left it back in 2013 when they introduced Voths due to real life commitments and gradually losing interest. Now in 2026, I logged in out of sheer curiosity, and a lot of new developments has been introduced in the game during 13 years. It is now under new show runners after changing hands a few times. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick around but the time I spend back upto 2013 was a good time. Made friends but unfortunately lost contact with all of them. Life happens to all of us. Recommended? Yes to kill some free time. Getting heavily involved and deep into fandom (or whatchamacallit)? Not really.
