Excellent strategic WWII game. Allows for some what-if explorations of differing paths towards victory from the historical version. Diplomacy adds a nuance for your chosen direction, as does technology investment.

Absolute yes from me. While i agree that some mechanics are not 100% ideal, like stacking of unit cards, which does not exist, this game is essentially the one you want to play when you want to go for the close to reality experience of WW2, while HoI 4 is kinda the rewrite history edition. You can do this here as well, however it is a lot harder to stray from history in this game. If you want to go even more in depth you may enjoy the Grigsby games or such more, for me however the strategic command series has just about the perfect depth and difficulty.

Overall, a great WW2 hex-based turn-based game. I used to play strategy-level board games and this is an excellent computer version of some of my old favourites like Third Reich, etc.

This is a great game system, hindered only by the absurdity and historical inaccuracy of its scenarios and campaigns. Naval units are individual vessels and submarines, rather than flotillas & squadrons that would better match the scale of the game. The order of battle for nearly every belligerent is truncated, ahistoric, and poorly researched. Scenarios should be designed at corps level and below, with very few army level units. I built a 1939 campaign based on a historic order of battle and pared down offensive statistics for nearly every unit. It played quite well - much more realistically than the canned offerings that came with the game. I just can't understand why a software company would build such an incredible game engine and then populate it with such terrible scenarios. I am recommending it for the game engine only.
