Sudden Strike 5 marks a confident return for one of the most recognizable real-time tactics franchises in World War II gaming. The game doubles down on large-scale battlefield tactics, brutal mission design, and historical authenticity rather than chasing modern action-oriented RTS trends. The result is a strategy game that can feel deeply rewarding one moment and maddeningly unforgiving the next. Veterans of classic tactical games like Blitzkrieg or older Sudden Strike titles will immediately recognize the philosophy behind the design. Engagements are slow, methodical, and deadly. One poorly positioned artillery battery or exposed armored column can collapse an entire frontline within minutes. Mission design is generally excellent. Many objectives allow multiple tactical approaches, whether through flanking maneuvers, sabotage, defensive attrition, or direct armored assaults. The sandbox structure gives players more freedom than previous entries, and the AI often reacts dynamically enough to keep battles tense. For hardcore strategy fans, though, those frustrations are part of the appeal. Few modern WWII tactics games commit this fully to operational realism and battlefield pressure. When a carefully planned assault finally succeeds after forty minutes of tension, Sudden Strike 5 delivers some of the most satisfying victories the genre has to offer. A demanding but rewarding WWII tactics game that captures the intensity of battlefield command. Technical problems and punishing difficulty hold it back, but its scale, tactical depth, and authentic warfare atmosphere make it a worthy successor to the series. 8/10 DISASTER | BAD | MEDIOCRE | OKAY | GOOD | GREAT |AMAZING| MASTERPIECE Reviewed on: Win11 Home 64-bit, Intel i5-11600K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB PRIME, 32GB DDR4-3600 RAM, 2 x Kingston NV1 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, Internet Broadband 1000/1000 Mbit If you like this review, then please consider giving it a thumbs up. A word of caution on the review scores for this one — a large chunk of ratings come from people with minimal hours logged, which skews the picture considerably. Take those with a grain of salt. Is it a flawless 10/10? No. But as an old-school WW2 strategy game, it delivers. Bigger maps than SS4, more units, more strategic depth, and missions that actually take time to work through — on harder difficulty at least, expect a few hours per mission. Where it falls short is in the extras. More multiplayer maps would have been welcome. The standalone challenge missions from the original SS were a great feature that's been left behind. And the lack of Steam Workshop support is a real missed opportunity — community modding is what keeps games like this alive long-term. That said, it's a clear step in the right direction for the series. A high 6, low 7 out of 10.

This game has a wildly unfair bad rating due to gamers not appreciating the style this game is going for. I play a LOT of RTS, Wargames, etc, over 2k hrs in ostfront, plenty of hours in hardcore milsims like combat mission, and this game is NOT those. It has a lot of things that may be off-putting, especially crashes (I assume they are my end) but visually this game is amazing, and has a huge variety of troops, and vehicles to play with. I have seen people talk about how you can just "clump charge" and yes you can, but the next dozen points will destroy you. You are forced to go slow, your units aren't "invincible", or completely impenetrable(vehicles like Matilda 1-2 are brutally tough cookies like IRL, just needs a lot of fire on them), but you can see what they were going for which is massive carnage, and fun as move your literal hundreds of units in a wide variety of ways using terrain, captured weapons, and more. I spent 4 hrs on the first mission alone, and can see myself coming back to play on hard. It really is worthy the price if you consider you get 25 missions, and skirmish/online MP and would be supporting its growth which could be one of the best chill strategy games out there. Also props to the devs for historical symbols, brave and very fun to have for a history buff. All the voice actors are to their nation as well so no American guy giving your germans commands either. Overall it is a must have game.

First off, let me just say, I've actually started to really like this game a few hours in. Congrats to the folks who developed it, as a WWII fan there is alot of great stuff here and plenty to continue building on in the future. The Good Stuff: 1 - Large Maps, Large Unit Counts - just played a level with 250 pop cap. Units much more numerous than SS4, COH, MOW, and the others. I like that, alot. Its the difference between smaller "squad" type games, to a battalion level game. 2 - Railhead Ops - As a former Army Officer, watching a train deliver 4 tanks on flatbed railcars simply looks awesome. Idk if it's necessary, but its real, and its absolutely awesome. Same with paratroopers and boat deliveries. It's just.. cool to see. Adding trains to something is like adding bacon to something. Trains delivering reinforcements to a railhead is high speed. 3 - Bridges and Schwimwagens - I can pontoon bridge anywhere. this is a great idea. And my schwimwagen can actually fjord a river. These types of things open up all sorts of tactical choices. This is a good idea. 4 - Graphics - I think the maps and stuff look plenty good. 5 - My Planning - on some of the levels its open enough to allow you to make your own choices, maneuver different groups here and there, and work the level by yourself. Take a backroad through the map, go a different route, bridge a different river, etc. This is good. A few cons: 1 - Repairs and Supplies - I find it fairly frustrating that I cannot fully repair a tank or atleast get it too 80-90%. I also do not like having to use the few precious points I have to purchase supplies. 2 - Scripting - I enjoy scripting that says your at point A and you have to get to Z, figure it out. On some levels this is the case and its great, on other levels i have had to rush around a bit. I don't recommend ever putting timers on anything. Minus a few things, overall I have found the game really enjoying. Great job to the developers and I hope to support it more in the future!!

For now I think suddenstrike 4 is better i like the camera angle better and I like the amount of maps, but if this game gets updated and shown love to it could be an even better game than its predecessor. Just dont abandon the game.
