May 2025
TLDR: More cyberpunk than yuri From the moment I read about this VN on some website, months ago, I was very interested in it. Than, months later I rediscover the screenshot of the listicle, and I immediately hop on Steam and buy it. From the moment I read the synopsis, amplified by the ad video on the store page... I really wanted to love this VN. Its a cyberpunk yuri visual novel... and I love both cyberpunk, and especially yuri. And it looks... AESTHETIC. But unfortunately... as the VN itself says... the truth isn't always what you're looking for. I'm gonna be very fair in this review, though. So, first, let's go over: The Good: The story is enthralling, the drama strong, the characters fun and likable, the worldbuilding fascinating, and the plot detailed and well thought out. Not to mention the incredible art and soundtrack. And the inclusion of sound effects was a very nice surprise, that I don't often see in visual novels. Not to mention partially interactive storytelling parts sprinkled throughout. And the plethora of high quality CGs really sell the characters, environments, and the story. I also really enjoyed how it seemed to reward me for paying attention to minor details. They're are clues hidden in plain sight everywhere, and callbacks to the most minor details far later in the story. And you must absolutely play through both paths and the DLC (its free) to truly appreciate everything there is to love here. The Bad: As others have said in their reviews, the pacing gets quite messed up towards the end of the VN. It starts out paced perfectly, building drama, introducing characters and plot, but then in the middle... it slows down. And that's good, actually! But afterwards, towards the end it speeds up considerably... too much. The ending feels rushed, and a lot of what made the story so great immediately fell to the wayside by this point. I also must mention that both the epilogue, and the Sunrise DLC were not at all what I was expecting. In a bad way. The decisions behind them, I find bizarre, and they do not add closure to the story, as one would expect. The english translation also had a plethora of minor typos, and the occasional difficult to comprehend sentence. The Yuri: I have so much to say here, I felt like it needed its own section. I am an avid fan of yuri... as a lesbian, I do love some intimate relationships between girls in my media. Yuri is well known for its positive, intimate, heartwarming, feel-good goodness. And this VN has many of the staples of yuri, and few would debate whether it deserves the tag. At least... on paper. While the VN does have plenty of cute, wholesome, feel-good intimate moments between Cila and Mara... just as it gets going, it falls flat on its face. It gets good, great even, and then divebombs back down, never to recover. It felt like there was some attempt to save face in the Sunrise DLC... but it wasn't enough. To put it plainly, this VN has a distinct lack of fan service. And I don't (just) mean sexual stuff. I also mean the cute, wholesome, feel-good moments that yuri is iconic for. What I mean is, the stuff the fans want to see... thus fan service, in the literal sense. Not to say that what there was wasn't great, but at the end of the day, it left me wanting. The Crux: Synergia was an overall great experience. And I don't regret buying it for a second. It just stumbled in some key places where it really hurt... particulary for me, a yuri lover. It feels kinda bizarre, because the yuri romance plays a crucial part in the plot itself, yet the writing feels more interested in the cyberpunk action and dystopian drama... and the romance, despite being at its core, is quickly left by the wayside when the plot finally gets going. So, in short it is much more cyberpunk, than it is yuri. If you're here for an action-packed cyberpunk drama with a predominantly female cast, you will have a great time. Don't hesitate, just do it. However, if you're here for a yuri romance... you will surely be left wanting. This review is not here to dissuade anyone curious from playing it, just a notice for those who were lured in by a particular keyword. I greatly look forward to what this studio may produce in the future. Just hopefully they stick the landing next time.

This game deserved more recognition, it is well made and in my opinion, has it's own distinct vibe even if by the end it feels like there has been quite a bit of lore dumping. And as someone already mentioned in the review somewhere here that this is an VN suitable for some of SIGNALIS players, I agree myself.

The music, visuals, and story are all fantastic (except the sudden plot/exposition dump that just jumpscares you near the end of the game, that kinda felt forced). Overall a fantastic visual novel! Also, this game loves to do quotes, and all I learned from those is that Philip K. Dick needs a hug. (Ignore the censor, that is the actual name)

Signalis vibes. Really liked it. In my personal opinion, it could have used a bit non PG-13 content, but that's just because it was always hinted at.

Kinda like "I, robot" written in "Signalis" (in terms of the human vs. android story and anime yuri stuff). But with easier gameplay and a better ending, this game gives a way satisfying vibe.
