I knew the game was excellent when I finished it and felt an odd longing. "Wow, it's over. I can't be a part of this story anymore"

It's difficult to effectively put into words why this game is so great. On the surface it might look like it doesn't have much to offer. The game play is little more than clicking, reading, and comprehending. But this isn't about the gameplay. The bartending part of this game feels more like a situation to tell a story from. And the story is phenomenal. I remember when I first experienced this game, via watching someone play it. I thought "oh I'll just listen and not pay much attention." And yet, at the end of that stream I was glued to the screen, genuinely interested in the characters and the writing. This is a heartfelt story, it's funny, tragic, and thought-provoking. And most of all - real. While it does take place in a far future it doesn't feel any less realistic than a game set today. Because while the world around us may change and change, we as people don't. Not in such a grandiose sense, at least; We still have problems, wants, needs, desires, and fears. All the characters in this game feel real. They are written like they are not a character - but a real person. When a character laughs you will most likely be laughing too, because the comedy is genuinely funny. This game also has done something not many games have. I think about it unprompted a lot. Finishing this game fully, 100% achievements, felt like when you finish that show that you know you can't experience for the first time ever again. It hurts. You might even feel hollow inside. It's like you're losing these people who are no longer just characters in a game, but real friends you made, who you know everything about. And it's a weird feeling. You know they're just characters in a game that someone wrote. But it still feels like something real, something tangible was lost. But what isn't fictitious is the feelings you feel. If you're dealing with the loss of someone close, or if you've had a fight with someone and feel bad about how it ended. This game will give you two things. 1. A different perspective to look at your loss or fight and maybe feel a little more positive. And maybe begin to approach making amends before you can't anymore. And 2. It will put the hard things you're feeling into words. The fear to face someone, the emptiness you may feel from loss, or the shame of "a few too many things" said. This game for me wasn't just entertainment. It was a form of help. It was comforting, it was calming. Even if you simply just have anxiety or depression Va-11 Hall-1 may subdue it, if even for only a moment. In a sea of games that can be played with the headphones off and earbuds in while YouTube plays, this is one to be fully immersed in. The music is beautiful and ignites a sense of neon whimsy which is hard to describe without playing it yourself. The atmosphere is that of a small bar, closed off from the world, bathed in neon lights. It's intimate, just you and a diverse cast of characters to talk to, learn about, and grow attached to. In the end when all is said and done, when you feel down or empty, VA-11 Hall-A's doors are always open, and remember - It's "Time to mix drinks and change lives."

This game had quite literally changed my life. I always thought about becoming a bartender in highschool because of this game (The vibes, listening to people, mixing drinks), but my main focus at the time was art as a career. I took college art classes and I later realized that art is purely a hobby for me, so then I thought about bartending again and decided to research about it. 6 months later, present, age 20: I'm about 3 weeks in a really nice, above casual bar working as a barback and I've never enjoyed working in my life. I'm working fulltime and working as hard as I can so then I can eventually, perhaps a year or so, become a bartender. Thank you Jill Stingray, this is the career I want to take. And now I replay this game to actually finish it cuz I got Jill evicted lol woops

Took almost a month to finish this game. Hear me out—here’s the method that made me enjoy it 200% more. I saw someone play the game in real time like treating each in-game day per real-life day—so I tried that too. Then I added a few things to make it even more immersive. I always played at night, on a huge 32 inch screen, with ambient purple/pink/red neon LED lights matching the Valhalla aesthetic. I’d have a snack or drink, just like the game suggests. Sometimes, a soothing tea worked great too. And let me tell you—IT HIT TOTALLY DIFFERENT. It honestly made me feel like I was in the game, like I was blending reality with this altered life. It felt like a kind of social ritual, like going to your regular bar after work as an another regular sat behind on the bar something like that Way more immersive than just playing a game. it gonna worth every single penny including snacks and alcohols (pretty sure spent more than 50$ on that lol) 10/10 or 9.5/10. some games could be an art and deliver deep philosophy itself
