Progression in this game is long and arduous for the sake of being a time sink. The game is fun and does what it sets out to well. But for the amount of time and effort it takes to boost tems its just not worth it imo, play it for a fun 10 hours of game play, but after that it becomes repetitive for the sake of repetition and with little reward for doing so.
Its aight, guess there are better Survivor Likes. Could have done more with the Temtems, like actually being able to attack yourself. Some attacks suffer hardly from not doing enough mass damage. All in all, just a copy of Vampire Survivors, nothing special, but nothing bad.
Solid game without much identity. This is a feeling I get quite often with survivors games. I understand numbers going up, sense of satisfaction, metaprogression and power creeping are the main loop, what keeps the games going. If the package includes nice art and graphics, that's even better. And that is what the game offers, a robust survivors experience with an impeccable technical department that, at the same time, doesn't offer anything new. I like how well it runs on my Steam Deck, the fans on the machine only need to work in heavily overcrowded areas with several attacks (they're called "techniques" here) flying at the same time. However. Having a straightforward experience is only half of the story. I need passion, I need to feel overpowered, I want to be surprised by a sidequest or a cameo or an unexpected twist... but I found none of that here. Not even weapons' fusions (called "synergies") felt like much. Catching a new TemTem too felt underwhelming. Metaprogression was dull. All the arenas had a very samey feeling, like reskins of the same layout. Also, I fell too quickly into the loop of "I'm gonna play the next run focusing on getting this or that achievement". I don't mind (I actually enjoy) grinding a little bit to get all the achievements of a game, but I also believe that comes after having enjoyed the game "organically", and here, I found myself "working" to get those achievements too quickly. Nothing I have said means this is a bad game; it is a solid survivors entry and it can be a moderately fun game you can spend some hours with or even think about going for the whole achievements' list. But I also don't think it sits on the top5 of survivors games I've played, while also being relatively more expensive, compared to some others that definitely hit all the right notes for me. I didn't dislike it, I just didn't like it enough. I do reccomend TemTemSwarm because it is an acceptable survivors game with a solid technical bill, althought it is also true that developers played it very safe and a lack of personality, where nothing about it really stands out, makes me think I won't remember much of it in a couple of weeks.
Having played over 100 hours now i can definitely say it's worth the price you pay for this game. Just don't forget that this is a brand new game so content should still be added in the future. So do prepare yourselves to grind at some point if you have done all the current content. They frequently do updates if any bugs are found which is already a huge + Having read other reviews i do want to clarify some things about stuff you can do in-game. 1. Prestiging a Tem allows you to unlock a color variation(LUMA) of said Tem when clearing a stage after you prestiged (Think of it like a shiny pokemon). This unlocks Luma spawns that drop extra EXP and can drop extra RE-ROLLS. This also unlocks a global passive for all your other tems and a personal passive for the tem making it stronger. 2. Prestiging further unlocks a second color variation that is basically a dark version of said tem that again unlocks spawns that again give more EXP and more SNOOZES or BLOCKS. Doing this also increases the bonus of the personal passive you unlocked upon prestiging for the first time. So if you keep prestiging the bonus only get's bigger and bigger as far as i know. i Havne't seen a max yet on any of my tems. 3, CO-OP adds more enemy spawns so it can make things a bit harder if you want a bigger challenge on max difficulty on the hardest map or any map you are currently on. Abilities can be used to work as a team depending on how you look at it, When you do 60min or longer runs for example, Kinu for heals , Pigepic to revive people and push back enemies and then 1 flex spot for whatever you want. This will all make sense if you play the game. Besides all this ranting, just have fun!
I believe this game is good enough as a solo game to recommend if you're a fan of the genre. Similar to Megabonk & Vampire Survivors, though with some differences, like choosing where to aim(which is a mechanic that needs to be defaulted to mouse or right/left stick direction, rather than having to hold the mouse/stick you use to aim.), different types of healing items from the pots, upgrade paths for each character rather than general upgrade. I think there should be a mix of character upgrades AND general upgrades, but thats just me, feels like you're incentivized to play multiple characters to unlock stuff and punished for spending those upgrades on one specific character rather than being a general upgrader with every character. You get a bunch of character specific upgrade bits when getting a new egg so thats nice. HOWEVER. If you're buying this to play with friends I don't think it is. The Multiplayer connection issues are extreme. If someone disconnects, THEY lose all the rewards they could've gotten. If the HOST disconnects, EVERYONE loses the rewards they could've gotten, which is a trash mechanic. Just give us the last 5 minute interval reward we got to. That's the most frustrating part about this game by far. It is crossplay, which is cool, haven't had an issue in private lobbies besides the game crashing. But for $10? Not a bad deal at all imop. If you're concerned, wait for a sale or better updates for multiplayer connection issues.
