Lots of fun! Mind-bending at times, and you can't complete every scenario the first time out. But I personally like the increasing complexity as more decks are added, and I'm a fan of clear goals. If you like a detail-oriented city builder that requires planning and laser focus, the scenarios will provide hours of entertainment. If you prefer a creative sandbox, the alternative play settings allow for plenty of expansive building. All in all, I'd definitely recommend it.

Q: Is this game addictive? A: When I close my eyes, I see hexagons. At first I was like, "this is dumb, I don't get it, this game isn't for me." But I was quickly pulled in by the gorgeous graphics, uplifting music and "challenging puzzle" game design. I mistakenly thought this was a city builder. It's totally not. More like a digital board game, reminds me of Catan which I love. Getting all the achievements took 32 hours which I found highly satisfying. Ain't got time for grinding! Best of all, it's actively being developed and THE DEVS CARE! They're involved in the community daily, they respond to bug reports submitted via the Google Form, and they listen to suggestions. 3 days after I made a n00b complaint, they released an update which included QOL fixes for idiots like me. That alone is worth supporting. Buy this game and tell them I sent you!

It's sort of like a reverse Dorfromantik, where you build the features instead of the board. Some people complain that you can't unlock all decks in a normal playthrough, but I like it this way. It makes each playthrough more like a rogue-lite, where you adapt to each game depending on what will work better.

Welp, let's get this out of the way first: I'm a sale junkie. I lean into new games first when they are on sale. Sometimes I regret the impulse, sometimes I feel especially rewarded. TerraScape falls somewhere in between. I looked at it as a variation on the Dorfromantik game that I recently picked up and that surprised me happily with its gameplay. This game has similarities but manages to stay somewhat unique. Unfortunately, some of its uniqueness doesn't sit as well with me, specifically the lack of (potentially) limitless build area. The limitation seems to be intrinsic to the game's structure, putting it more squarely in the puzzle-solving mode than the building environment mode. Within that constraint, the game is entertaining and challenging in its own way. I'm not sure I see this as "chill", as many other reviewers describe it. It has no inherent threats and battles, sure, but you still have to work your brain pretty heavily to figure out the best build combinations and there is ample placement frustration. Fun? I'd say yes. As fun as Dorf? Fair comparison or not, I'd say no. I'd still give the game my recommendation, just not a full-throated one. But it does satisfy my sale addiction, so, I'm good.

A point-based puzzle city-builder that I consider to be the natural evolution of Dorfromantik. Assemble complex patterns of tiles to build powerful merged buildings. For example: circling a water well with three cottages, two foresters and a lumberjack transforms them into a forest village, which immediately spawns woods nearby. This mechanic allows the player to manipulate the terrain to their choosing, which makes for interesting gameplay.
