This was honestly a great experience, I fully understand why it's so popular! Despite being quite old, this game managed to feel unique and very immersive. The narrative is interesting and handles various themes in a remarkably direct way, combined with an artistic, morbidly stunning presentation. I adore the gritty, yet weirdly comforting aesthetic and game design. Additionally the soundtrack is incredibly catchy and atmospheric! I found the story captivating and enjoyed how the plot unfolded, together with the character developments. Particularly the characters were entertaining, sometimes perhaps too much, because I was occasionally questioning whether many scenes were supposed to be comedic or I just laughed a lot for no reason lol. While the story & characters partially felt overly comically edgy, it still felt very fitting to the whole setting and I thoroughly liked it regardless. The gameplay is overall creative, with map exploration being a big charm, but I can't imagine completing the game without a guide, some puzzles felt highly unintuitive. Mitzi is best girl btw.

The Cat Lady blew me away—it’s a dark masterpiece. From the haunting art to the gripping story, everything is perfect. It portrays depression in a way few games dare, and the ending is truly satisfying. The main character and Mitzi are unforgettable. If you love dark, psychological games, this is an absolute must-play https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3607167222

Too few cats, too many emotions This game triggered mainly negative feelings in me Sadness, pain, fear, exhaustion, hopelessness It felt more often than I'd like to admit like a much worse version of my own life The graphics fit the whole gloomy vibe so well, I enjoyed walking through the sceneries very much Music's also good Overall I'd say it's a 9/10, negative point: too few cats

Giving a review for this game in 2025 might seem a bit odd, but I just wanted to share my feelings about it. I’m so happy that I played The Cat Lady. It’s definitely one of my favorite games ever. I liked it from the very beginning — maybe because I’m close to the themes this game explores. I don’t really know, but it comforted me from the start. From my personal experience I’m really glad to see a game that shows the mentality of people who have depression and survived clinical death for $u!c!de attempt. I feel very close to Susan; somehow, we’re very alike. At first, I didn’t like her. I liked Mitzi more, but over time, as Susan changed, I realized that I didn’t hate her anymore — and that was a big step for me. Because I saw so much of myself in her, it was easy to hate her but in the end, I want to be like her. I want to recover and learn to like myself. I want to change — and seeing a character so similar to me doing that gives me hope every time I play this game. I love that The Cat Lady talks about rebirth, $u!c!de, hope, sadness, and spreads awareness about depression. I love the plot, the twists, and the surreal scenes and characters. I love how well it’s made — it still feels amazing to play, even 13 years after its release. In the end, I just want to say: play this game. It’s a masterpiece with a deep story and so many things to think about. It gives you something that opens your eyes. I love this game, and I love Susan, Mitzi, and so many other characters :) If you’re sensitive to the game’s trigger warnings, maybe avoid it — it can be difficult to play. But I highly recommend this beautiful game, especially if you want to understand the subjects I mentioned before. Have a good day or night, everyone who read this! 💙

The game that helped me survive. I've been thinking about what to write here for many years. So, where do I even start? This game, along with its counterparts in "The Devil Came Through Here" series, was something I had been drawn into from the second I laid my eyes on them. But one game stuck out the most among the others, The Cat Lady. I remember being in high school, depressed out of my mind, unsure of the future, and just wanting to disappear. I saw myself in Susan Ashworth, which I'm sure many other people have and will. I watched it first from Cryaotic, (which admittedly did NOT age well..). I watched that series so many times I memorized the lines, the starting suicide note, the poem Susan recites throughout the game. Its all planted in my head now. I share this game and the series with anyone I deem trustworthy enough to let into my world, because this game is a huge part of my world. What the characters go through, the choices you have to make, the backstories, the enemies.. everything is well thought out and fits so perfectly within the story even among the chaos of it all. (Not to mention it all gets mentioned and looped back to even all the way to their newest game, Burnhouse Lane. This game and all the others are within a full, cohesive world.) I still remember the sheer excitement I felt when I recognized the voice of the Pest Control guy as being David Firth for the first time. One of my favorite artists out there. Which helped plant this game even more into my heart. This game fits me in a way no other games could accomplish so far. You start to feel an almost sweet sense of melancholy as soon as the game starts, which I know is not everyone's cup of tea, but if it is yours, please do give this game a try. The soundtrack fits the very specific aesthetic of The Devil Came Through Here franchise and the other Harvester Games titles perfectly. It can be loud, quiet, bittersweet. A full on journey all by itself. I could sit here and write about every single chapter separately, I could talk about all the parasites and The Queen of Maggots and the whole world surrounding the games but it would all be for naught if you don't watch or experience it yourself. The Cat Lady is truly a whole different experience. So if grim, depressing stuff that gives away to slowly build hope within you is what you're looking for, please play this game. Turn down the lights, get yourself a black coffee, and just experience it. You won't regret taking the time to give it a chance when it's over.
