Finally a Backrooms game that FEELS like the backrooms and isn't just a co-op survival game (No hate of the co-op games but they just are not my thing)

Great exploration horror game with a strong “you are there” feeling, but I think The Complex: Expedition does this better. Main downside is progression—saving doesn’t feel reliable, which makes replaying or continuing runs frustrating. The character also barely speaks compared to Expedition. Another downside is the lack of achievements, which reduces replay incentive. Atmosphere is strong, but slightly weaker than Expedition. If you’re choosing between the two, Expedition is the better overall experience for replayability and immersion.

A severely unnerving interpretation of the backrooms that feels familiar yet unknowable. There are glimpses of the science corporation at the centre of this mystery but to me at least the The Complex feels very much alive in it's own way - conjuring up strange architecture that it doesn't understand completely and leading strangers that should never have been there in the first place astray. As for the gameplay it is simple and straightforward. You can act as if this is your own footage - zooming in a on a spot where you may or may not have seen something. The sprint mechanic is implemented in a Schrödinger style; will you need to use it? And crouching feels like you're looking for another perspective to understand this maze, not only to crawl under odd barriers. I strongly recommend this game for a liminal spaces fan. A small price to pay to experience this even once.

Horrifying. I just beat it by walking through and not really exploring, but that has got to be one of the worst/best experiences I have ever had. If you are a horror chasing psychopath like me, this game is for you. The thing that is so great about this game is that it isn't your typical, 'monster chasing you down a hallway,' type of game. It is very eerie, and unsettling, without super aggressive monsters. For example you are going down weirdly shaped halls and doors. and at the corner of your vision, a monster that you didn't even know was there goes behind a wall. Or there are multiple paths you can take and then that path leads to more paths, etc. All the rooms have the perfect lighting, and the game looks super realistic although it is recorded on a vhs. This is why the game stood out to me, because for years I have been trying to find a games/movies that could actually make me want to stop playing/watching because I am super desensitized. This exceeded my expectations, I have had numerous backrooms games and this one was by far the scariest. Like one time I stepped inside of an elevator, and it closed and instantly you hear 2 knocks on the two shut doors, this is one of the only times an entity interacted with me and it was horrifying, because you are always looking for one and watching all over, but nothing pops up. There is also very distant sounds that you can't Identify, and when you get closer they disappear. You always feel like someone is watching you, and there are dark spots in the walls that you can't just use a "flashlight," to brighten up the area because the game does not provide one. You might think that this was a bad developer choice at first, but you realize that the super dark spots make you feel like something is lurking in them even though it is probably nothing, then you realize that having no flashlight was a strategic way of making you feel even more uneasy. All in all, the game impressed me by a lot, the seemingly INFINITE rooms inside of a map is a great touch, and the way the developer makes you feel like your being watched was astonishing. Because not only do you feel like you are being watched, you ARE being watched, without knowing. Bravo.
