I played through the House of Da Vinci series (as I'm a huge fan of The Room games) and loved them. This game when it came out, was admittedly jank. It was full of bugs, weird art design, the puzzles required huge leaps of logic that made absolutely no sense. It just felt wrong. I'm going to go on the record and say they are improving this game big time with these chapter reworks. I just decided to play through again and am blown away at how cohesive the puzzles are now, and even the environmental reworks. On the lower levels now, as an example, the outside is now dark and stormy instead of a peaceful day with no ambient sounds. It was super strange before, now it feels proper. The game was super frustrating and not great at launch; now it's getting there. I held off giving a review this long to see if the publisher and developers would fix the title, and it appears they are doing so.

I wish I could give a mixed rating here. Graphically it's a gorgeous puzzle game again what Blue Brain Games delivers here. It's a setup for a new storyline that I look forward to continue (with House of Tesla II?) Many of the puzzles are very nicely done but there's also a huge problem that a lot of the puzzles suffer from: Not communicating the aim of the puzzle well enough. There were several occasions where I knew I had to do a specific puzzle (it's a pretty linear game - duh) but I just couldn't get behind the resoning of said puzzle. Some puzzles I even solved by chance without even understanding them, this shouldn't happen in a puzzle game as this creates frustration and confusion. The story (especially the ending) could also be explained a bit better, as I still don't fully understand the reasoning behind some of the characters actions and intentions. I read everything I found and yet I fail to understand what actually happened. Maybe the reason behind this is, that the game is setup as a first part of a series again, but I would have wished to at least have some conclusion in the end. Nevertheless, if you like similar puzzle games you'll find a lot of enjoyable (and some frustrating) time with this title (and that's the main reason why I decided to a favorable rating).

Edit: Time spent on this game reads 28+ hours. A lot of that time was spent with the game idling in the background. The real number is probably ~16 hours. Just fyi. As someone who is not only a long time fan of Nicola Tesla's work, and myself an electro-mechanical engineer who has built (in real life) many of the machines in this game, and has made a living exercising the theory and knowledge of many of Tesla's inventions, I cannot help but love the premise of this game - it is ingrained in my mind and in my life, and for that, I had to play it, and can't help but love it for the aesthetic beauty it displays. With that being said... I am not so sure that the developers fully understand the reality and theory of the machines that are depicted in this game, leading to an undesirable amount of lost opportunity in terms of practical realism and intuition. Yes, it's a puzzle game, but I would have wished to see more puzzles that taught the player more about the machines and how they work. Unfortunately, I must agree with other reviews that some of the puzzles are not solvable through logical reasoning, requiring arbitrary permutations to brute force the solution. This, for me, is very unsatisfying, and left me little feeling of accomplishment. I would often find myself searching for clues that do not exist, and towards the end used the hints more than I'd like to admit - just to get through it. For many of the puzzles, even after stumbling into the solution, I was unable to understand the solution even after studying it for some time. I appreciated some of the historical accuracy that existed in the game - it is there. It could of been a really great and fun learning experience for someone that does not know a lot about Tesla and his work, or electro-mechanical machine theory, but it went slightly off the rails after the first couple of chapters and the historical data fell into a fictional fantasy of dungeons and dragons (metaphorically speaking). In closing - the idea is here - it is great - I've spent half my life studying Tesla's work, and was beyond excited to play a puzzle game based around it. But, I think the developers should have spent more time learning about the machines that they are depicting as art, and should have stuck to more historical accuracy. For these reasons, and some of the puzzle solutions to which I still don't understand, I think they missed the mark on what could have been a masterpiece built on reality. So why do I recommend it? Because Tesla was a genius, and not a well-known genius until more recent. Much of the technologically advanced world that we live in today is built on Tesla's work - he changed the world - shaped the world we live in today - and his name was nearly buried in history to be forgotten. If it takes a game to get others interested in Tesla's work, then I support it.

I had been waiting for this game since last year. It was supposed to be released in late 2024, but it got delayed. I’ve played all the other games from this studio, and now that I’m playing this one, I can honestly say it’s very enjoyable, especially in terms of story and puzzles. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys thinking, solving puzzles, and experiencing a fresh take on storytelling.

Probably about half way done with the game, so far the story is interesting enough for me to keep going. I like mechanics with eletricity and the puzzles in general, but some puzzles do feel too similar to one another (or to ones from House of Da Vinci). If you liked the previous games, you will almost certainly also enjoy this one. More of the same with some new mechanics and a new interesting story/setting, but not an evolution. Some characters look like they returned from a 12h rave though.
