I hope the devs read this review because I want to give constructive criticism, not complaints. In all honesty, I don't think I actually do have any complaints, it's an incredible game that deserves far more attention than its getting. But it has the potential to be one of the best kart racers in the last decade. Which is why I want to be as constructive as I can, because the devs deserve the respect. First off, here is why you need to buy this kart racer: The vanilla tracks are amazing, no criticisms there, just good tracks. The controls are tighter than my p**** which is now wet from how satisfying it is to drive these cars. It's bright and colourful and kid friendly in design. The modding scene is already huge with racers and tracks being imported from all sorts of other titles. Lastly, it appeals to both casual party gamers and the sweatiest of racers and reminds me of CTR NF with how high the skill ceiling is. Buy this game if you like kart racers, it's great. Now on to my criticisms and how the game can improve: My first one being the character designs. Want to get this out of the way since this would be hard to implement any changes for. I personally believe the characters don't seem to have any thematic consistency. I know there's apparently a story mode in development so unless the story can explain this away, it just remains inconsistent. There are animal characters in this game including a cat girl and a gorilla man, which are genuinely nice designs and would fit right in with a game like Super Lucky's Tale. The problem is there are also two characters that are just simple shapes just kinda Rayman'd together. While having characters just be kinda circular blobs like out of a children's cartoon is not a bad thing on its own, it makes zero sense to put them aside animal characters. Given that there's two characters of each theme, it makes it seem like the character designers wanted it both ways but end up making an inconsistent visual theme. If it were up to me, I would redesign the blob type characters into a more animal-like theme since the cat and gorilla characters are the best looking ones on the roster. Their personalities could even be easily transferred with this design philosophy. Another criticism I can give is the sound design. Don't get me wrong, I think what's there is fantastic and if nothing changes in that regard it will be fine. But when comparing it to the games that inspire it, there's some clear differences. Let's take CTR NF as the main example to compare it to. The boost sound in The Karters kinda sounds like powder is being blown out the kart, compared to CTR NF where it sounds loud and firey, almost like you can smell the fuel. It just doesn't have the same impact which is important when the game is focused mostly on boosts. Another is the sound of the karts themselves or rather when they land. In The karters, it sounds like the kart is lighter or made of plastic, whereas in CTR NF the karts landing sound is heavy, clanky, mechanical and includes the sound of the tires screeching. This kind of attention to the sound and the overall noisiness in CTR NF is what made it such a fun and addictive kart racer and also what sets it apart from the more bouncy kid-friendly racers like MK. This is something I would love The Karters to improve on, it would add so much to the feel of the game with minimal change to the way the game works. Another thing that relates to sound, but is much smaller a point, is that the other racers seem to be silent. I love that your own racer says lines during the race, it gives them so much personality when they could have just ignored that as a feature entirely (cough cough sonic crossworlds). My criticism here is that none of the other racers say stuff during the race, or at least I haven't heard them say anything. Once again, comparing this to CTR, characters would always yell stuff at each other and it really added a cutthroat energy to the race and gave life to a game most people played singleplayer. This even occurred when you weren't in proximity to the characters and it felt lively and reminded you of the interesting characters on the track. This could absolutely work super well in The Karters and give it that same boost in energy. One more thing, but this one may be more personal. I really wish there were higher difficulties. I know that what I want is not what everyone wants but I would love the game's AI to push me to my absolute limit and the game's highest difficulty doesn't really do that. I would personally kiss the developer that implements a difficulty that makes me really push my knowledge on the game. Overall, this game rules. Since most decent kart racers are console exclusive nowadays, this game is a blessing and a true gem. I am super excited to see how the development goes and I wish the devs well on making this game more kickass. Will be promoting this game to all friends.

I just went on the workshop and subscribed to DarkSlayers, (shout out for doing legends work), four collections he put together, It added: Racers: 969 (Doesn't include different outfits) Tracks: 221 "Karts": 355 (Doesn't include different paints & models) Wheels: 65 (Doesn't include custom sets) Stickers: 15 (Doesn't include different variants) It's easy to see the potential in the game, I'm leaving a positive review just for that alone. Collection link for anyone interested (about 20GBs): https://steamcommunity.com/id/DarkSlayerAA/myworkshopfiles/?section=collections&appid=2269950 Not mods have the same level of detail but that's a funny positive in my eye.

This is THE Definite karting experience on any console, anywhere. I've been playing CTR competitively since the age of 6, and for 10 years would play it for roughly 3 hours a day - I was absolutely convinced it would be the best karting game of all time. The Karters 2 changed my mind about that within mere hours. Firstly, the speed feels incredible - it feels like 400cc on Mario Kart, but the game is built around it to be easy to control and navigate the courses - the reserve system, which allows for technically infinite speed, is genious and implemented perfectly. Secondly, the track design is beautiful, and the unlocked frame rate feels INCREDIBLE compared to other platforms - driving feels smooth and inputs feel responsive. The game has a competitive scene, with world leaderboards and ghosts being accessible in-game, making attempts for world records much easier and engaging, as you can actually race the current #1. The most incredible thing about this game is the Mod Support - I, with 0 unity or blender experience, have created a grand prix of original tracks and been able to play them online with other people, as well as choose from HUNDREDS of tracks created, and ported, by other people. Characters and karts are also fully customisable! The music in this game is fun, memorable and on par with other soundtracks in the genre. Overall, this game is genuinely a 10/10 for anyone who loves kart racers, it is THE best experience you will have. Enjoy!
