0/10 no orcs in the game... In all seriousness this is a neat casual strategy game. You pick a faction (human, demon, dwarf), pick a commander (with a unique passive trait, active skill, and unique buildings), pick a stage (some of them have neat modifiers) and go at it. Everything does something. A farm building produces X gold every X seconds. Windmill gives +X gold whenever a production/culture building nearby produces something. Put farm next to windmill = profit. You also get relics which modify the game further (get free units every once in a while, give you discount in the shop if X happens). Eventually you will get some neat items for you to stack some starting bonuses as well. There is a nice variety of commanders. Some of them fundamentally change how you play their faction. The amount of possible combinations of commander/item/relic is quite extensive. Humans are the most basic faction. Their gimmick is basically a lack of gimmick. Things do things. Demons on the other hand tie all their production to a single timer. Dwarfs have a complicated economy but their endgame can be very strong. All of them are fun but dwarfes are a bit more brain-intensive and you will most likely lose at least once somehow screwing your economy which is more likely than with other races. Eventually you will start Chaos difficulty which are the same maps but with extra modifiers (+% of enemy HP and interesting effects like all units get lifesteal). Those are very fun and can be quite challenging. The cons of this games are: - Still waiting for the elf faction. - No orcs. - Game will get repetitive quickly. Unless you absolutely love the loop and core concepts you will get bored. - No orcs. - Items are frustrating. Since everything is a roll and the item can have like four effects it takes a lot of time to grind before you roll something you love. So 95 % are garbage you will recycle and 5 % you will keep using over and over. - No orcs.

When I saw this game, I immediately bought it. I am constantly searching for good tug-of-war games. As an example, one of the best tug-of-war games is Battle Cats. I'm not expecting every game I go into to be at that level, since it's been added to for over 10 years. Now, after nearly 10 hours of with There Are No Orcs, I can say: This game is worth it. There are 3 things I look for in a game like this: Gameplay You create buildings that make money, you create buildings that make units, and you create buildings that do a few other interesting things, depending. As you start a game, you will have a certain amount of money to set up shop with. As the game progresses, your opponent will start sending units across to attack your buildings. If you lose all your buildings, you lose. The units your buildings produce will make their way across the field to attack your opponent. All of the fighting and movement is automated (for the most part) with you being able to pick up and move buildings to change where your units spawn from, otherwise you typically have no control over them. There are some neutral locations your units will capture as they walk/fly over them that give certain benefits. And there are towers to protect your opponent so you don't overrun them too quickly. As you destroy those towers, you're given the option to choose 1 of 3 relics that can benefit your side. You can spend money to buy and place buildings, but you can also spend money to improve the level of your store of cards. The buildings you have access to will depend on your store level, but will also depend on which race and which commander you are playing as (I'll cover that more in progression). Each time your store level goes up, you'll be given another relic choice. Every race and commander has a different play style, and, when you get to end game content, you'll want to pick the one that works best for you. Every commander has an ability that can affect play in some way. For instance: one commander's ability shoots a fireball where you choose, damaging enemy units, another commander's ability lets you play double or nothing with your money (the odds in your favor). Average match length depends on difficulty (and skill), but I'd say around 30 minutes for most. Progression There's is some progression here. You start with only one race unlocked, and only one commander. As you clear the maps, you unlock more commanders, and eventually more races. The races play pretty differently from each other, and the commanders less so. Some commanders are easy to unlock, and you'll do so just by playing through the levels and difficulties. Other commanders require a bit of effort, so be sure to click on the various locked commanders to see what you need to do to unlock them. Difficulties are part of the progression. You'll have to beat normal to move on to hard and brutal. You can skip hard and just play brutal once normal is complete. After brutal comes "Chaos" difficulty, which has levels of difficulty that ramp up as you go. When you unlock a new commander/race, you can go back to normal difficulty to get a feel for it. The "end game" is basically leveling up the chaos difficulty. I haven't seen all of that yet, but it doesn't look like there's much to it. Each level comes with modifiers like "if you pick one relic, you get all of them," which might sound good, but can wreck havoc with what you're doing. As far as I can tell, once you've unlocked the races and commanders, you've pretty much completed the game. Replay Value Playing the same levels over and over again is fun, especially when trying different commanders/races. The challenging chaos levels are also fun to work your way through. There's enough little challenges (to unlock certain commanders) to keep you playing over and over. But, eventually, that is it. Once you've unlocked everything, there's no more reason to keep playing. However, it'll definitely take more than 20 hours to unlock everything, and that's not bad for the price. A few things I think could have been improved: [*]More maps. There's only 4 maps. Not really a big deal, since the fun is in the management of your buildings, but still something that makes the game feel a bit samey after a few hours. [*]More music. Not a lot of variety here. I mean, you can always turn down the music and listen to something else, but that kinda takes the fun out of it. [*]More progression. It would be fun to have more commanders to play, more maps to try out, and more areas to progress in. Maybe add more units/buildings that can be unlocked. tl;dr: This game is worth the price. I would have even paid $15 for it. It feels a little bit like Circle Empires, but tug-of-war. If you like games like Battle Cats, or the old tug-of-war maps in StarCraft, give it a try. There's even a demo if you aren't sure.

I don't know if anyone else remembers this old Warcraft 3 mod called Castle Fight. It was 3v3 and everyone picked their race at the beginning of the game and built buildings specific to their race that produce units, had special effects, or helped your economy, etc. The units would automatically move down either the upper or lower lanes. This game is a lot like that game. I definitely felt nostalgic while playing game.

100% worth the price of admission and then some. I absolutely LOVE this melding of genres. It's almost like 9 kings plus Hero's Hour or maybe more like Super Fantasy Kingdom and 9K. Anyways, its so much fun and the matches are just the perfect amount of time. The commander unlocks and equipment you find and can build are a fantastic progression system. I feel like this game is going to spawn at LEAST a handful of "clones." Hopefully they will each build upon what's been done here and give us something better each time. As far as this game its so much fun to try out different commanders and see how different each match becomes because of your commander. The elf princess was truly different from the rest in that she consumes the tiles you get to create these massive Trents but then she has these Dream Blossom buildings that produce new tiles. It's such a fantastic little balanced system that completely changes how you go about playing the game (in all the best ways). I truly love this little game and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the games I mentioned (and games that are like those).

I've got a bad habit of not playing games that I can't get anymore progression or achievements in--and I played 9 hours of this game's demo during nextfest just due to how fun it is. Easy immediate buy, and I'm really enjoying the full content. Good job devs
