Updated Review The developer caved into all the Girls und Panzer fans and added vehicles that have no place in this game. Adding new vehicles and factions was a great thing, but to add ridiculous and outdated vehicles was very disappointing as an original backer and long time fan of the original Tokyo Wars. Voice lines are still as cringey as they were, there are still optimization and framerate issues, certain bugs and glitches still persist since launch. This game had a lot of promise, ...had. Outdated Review A spiritual successor to Tokyo Wars, a great arcade game back in 96'. Tokyo Warfare was a game I've always been hoping for since the Tokyo Wars arcade booths were decommissioned. Though the original soundtrack doesn't live up to the standards Tokyo Wars set, the gameplay is still the same and it's great. The simple and fast paced game play really is what makes this game great. There are no complicated armor penetration values or angling of armor, 2 Factions, 2 MBT's, 1 Game Mode. This may put off some, but sometimes simple is for the better. As for bugs and glitches, there are a few minor camera clipping issues and sometimes you respawn on top of another tank, but nothing game breaking or big enough for it to matter. I also hope to have full Japanese voicing for menus and in-game implemented soon, as the English voices sound rather cheap and as a native speaker it really is unbearably cringey. I maybe bias because of the nostalgia I feel from playing Tokyo Warfare, but the game is fun, and I recommend it for anyone who wants a game they can play for very short amounts and still have fun.

In this game, you will find: - Health bars - Enemy tanks spawning right in your face - A world where stabilizers for tank guns do not exist - Fighting modern MBTs with Panzer IIs, and sometimes winning - WWII Japanese tin cans sometimes surviving a hit from an MBT - Intense stereotyping despite having no campaign or story mode - American-sounding British female tank crew - WWII tanks with thermal imaging - Fights between ground vehicles, and ground vehicles only. No infantry, no emplacements, no aircraft dropping bombs at you and triggering your War Thunder PTSD - BARBECREW - I kid you not, this is literally what the game says when your vehicle gets knocked out - The one German character proclaiming "Death and destruction!" every time you choose her If I have to describe this game in one phrase, I will go with "Why tf is this a thing?". And I absolutely adore and love it. Get it, play it, and leave yourself confused as to how you feel about this game. You deserve it.

Pretty darn fun little game to dump a handful of hours into if you like your tank combat fast and frantic. Included vehicles range from the venerable little Renault FT up to modern machines, and you can pit old vs new against each other if you like. Multiplayer is deader than a door nail but the included AI ranges from braindead to somewhat aimbotty so you'll always be facing a challenge. Visually Tokyo Warfare looks amazing for an older title although some textures blur pretty badly if you end up close to them. The two included desert combat levels with their burning oilfields and dense clouds of smoke are particularly nice to look at. Controls and audio are fine, but the audio will cut out some if your PC starts being taxed with multiple burning tanks on screen at once. Some issues with repeated game freezing and CTDs during heavy combat so I suggest capping rounds to 30 deaths total on older hardware so your progress isn't lost multiple times. All achievements work and can be unlocked vs AI, probably within two hours if your accuracy is good but if you suck like I do you could be looking at closer to three and a half hours to complete. Easy recommend at half off, but not sure I'd go for this at full price as support has been dropped and a second title released which is jarringly similar to this one.

I used to love playing a very similar game in arcade centers 20 years ago. I never had enogh coins to play it long enough. I had completely forgotten about this game until I saw it about 2 years ago on KickStarter. I backed it but it didn't succeed. The dev continued to work on it regardless because he believed in his project and the fruit of labor is what we see on Stream. This is a simple game. You pick your favorite tank, chooe your opponent's tanks, select a backdrop and off we go. It's good at killing time for a bit from time to time. Just like the game I loved playing 20 years ago or so.

Edit / Disclaimer 20/12/2017: The developer released the final update yesterday and said he won't be able to work on this game anymore, so the portion of my review where I state the developer is quick to fix and update may not reflect the current state of the game, however I still stand by everything said here and still recommend the game, as for the developer thank you for the extensive support offered, I'll look forward to any future projects you happen to be part of! TL;DR: [X] Great game [X] Great price [X] Great dev [X] WWII Tanks [ ] Not many players [ ] Only deathmatch as of now I'm having great fun with this game, I remember back in the late 90's when my father used to take us to the local mall and there was a Tokyo Wars arcade machine, it was neat because the seat would move back when you shot. Tokyo Warfare brings the same joy I had back in the day (minus the moving seat). But keep in mind this game is Deathmatch only (as the time of this review) and is as arcade as the old machine. Also I seem to not find anyone else playing on multiplayer, don't know if there is no one else playing (which is criminal, this game is great and cheap) or it is my connection (ports maybe?). But still you can have plenty of fun on the single player where you can select enemies and allies and its numbers, then go blow shit up on one of 6 maps (as the time of this review). Talking about maps, this game received a huge update last week which added a lot of content, when I bought it some months ago it had only two factions, being Japan with 2 tanks and Soviets with 4, now it has added 3 more factions, USA, Germany and UK. Aswell adding new tanks to everybody, including World War II tanks (Just look at the update notes on announcements to see what it added, it is a lot of tanks) aswell two more maps. Also it is worth noting that the dev is really quick to reply to any bug report and extremelly quick to fix it, such professionalism should more than being praised, while other devs take a long time or even ignore problems, the guy behind the game really cares about user experience, this alone should already made the game more than worth.
