5/10 Maybe get on sale if you want a short nep game and don't mind the mediocre gameplay. I only really give this a positive rating because the story is decently entertaining. The game play however, is a huge letdown. Most of the story maps are "eliminate this number of enemies" that all spawn in a group a few feet away from your spawn. For most maps I spawned in, walked over to the group, used an sp skill to build the exe gauge, and then used an exe/lily link attack to finish in less than 30 seconds which is not a lot of fun.

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies, developed by IDEA FACTORY, COMPILE HEART, and TAMSOFT and published by Idea Factory International, is a spin-off that fully embraces the Neptunia series’ tendency toward playful absurdity while shifting its gameplay into a more action-oriented direction. Instead of the turn-based systems that define the mainline entries, it opts for a fast-paced hack-and-slash structure, pairing it with a deliberately ridiculous premise that revolves around zombie filmmaking and over-the-top school antics. The result is a game that feels less like a traditional RPG and more like a light, character-driven action experiment built for quick bursts of entertainment. The narrative is intentionally unserious, centering on Blanc and Neptune as they navigate a bizarre situation involving a film academy and a zombie outbreak tied to their efforts to create a movie. It’s a setup that exists primarily as a vehicle for humor, filled with exaggerated dialogue, meta jokes, and the kind of self-awareness the franchise is known for. Character interactions carry most of the appeal here, with the familiar cast delivering comedic exchanges that fans will recognize and enjoy. However, the story itself lacks depth and progression, functioning more as a backdrop than a driving force, which may leave players looking for a more structured narrative feeling underwhelmed. Gameplay is built around arena-based combat where players face waves of enemies in contained stages. The hack-and-slash mechanics are straightforward, allowing for quick combos, special abilities, and transformations that add flair to battles. The introduction of a tag system—letting players switch between two characters mid-fight—adds a layer of flexibility, encouraging experimentation with different team combinations. While the combat feels responsive and satisfying at first, it doesn’t take long for patterns to emerge, and the lack of deeper mechanics means encounters can become repetitive over time. Success often comes down to repeating effective attack strings rather than adapting to complex enemy behaviors. One of the more appealing aspects of the game is its character variety. A wide roster of playable characters provides different move sets and abilities, giving players multiple ways to approach combat. This variety helps maintain interest across missions, especially for fans who enjoy seeing different characters in action. There is also a multiplayer component that allows cooperative play, adding a social element to the experience, though it feels somewhat limited in scope and doesn’t significantly expand the core gameplay. The structure of the game is mission-based, with players selecting stages from a menu rather than exploring a continuous world. While this approach keeps sessions short and accessible, it also disrupts the overall flow. Missions are often brief, sometimes ending just as they begin to build momentum, which can make the experience feel fragmented. The constant transition between menus and stages further reinforces this stop-and-start pacing, preventing the game from developing a strong sense of progression. Visually, the game maintains the vibrant anime style associated with the Neptunia series. Character models are expressive and colorful, and combat effects add energy to battles. However, the environments themselves are relatively plain, often lacking the detail or variety needed to make them memorable. They serve their purpose as functional arenas but rarely contribute to the overall atmosphere in a meaningful way. In terms of difficulty, the game leans toward accessibility. Early stages are forgiving, allowing players to quickly grasp the mechanics, and while later encounters introduce slightly more challenge, the overall experience remains manageable. This makes the game approachable for a wide audience but may leave players seeking a more demanding or strategic experience wanting more depth. Progression systems, including equipment and character upgrades, provide some sense of growth, though they don’t significantly alter the gameplay loop. Replayability comes primarily from the character roster and the ability to revisit missions with different setups. While this offers some incentive to continue playing, the lack of evolving mechanics or varied objectives means that repetition becomes more noticeable over time. The game provides enough content to remain entertaining in shorter sessions, but it doesn’t fully sustain long-term engagement. Ultimately, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies succeeds in delivering a fun, lighthearted experience that captures the personality of the Neptunia series while experimenting with a different gameplay style. It doesn’t aim for complexity or innovation, instead focusing on accessible action and character-driven charm. For fans, it offers an enjoyable diversion with familiar humor and a fresh perspective on the cast, but for others, its repetitive structure and limited depth may make it feel like a novelty rather than a standout title. Rating: 8/10

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies is a hack-and-slash action title that blends Neptunia’s trademark humor with a quirky school-themed zombie invasion. Built as a spin-off, it emphasizes fast combat, character variety, and lighthearted storytelling rather than deep mechanics or narrative complexity. The game targets fans who enjoy Neptunia’s playful tone combined with accessible action gameplay. The story places the cast in Gamicademi, where Blanc attempts to save the school by filming a zombie movie—only for real zombies to appear. The premise is intentionally absurd and self-aware, filled with comedic dialogue and meta jokes typical of the series. The narrative remains simple but entertaining, primarily functioning as a backdrop for short missions and character banter. Combat revolves around switching between two chosen characters and clearing small arenas packed with enemies. Each heroine has distinct attack patterns, special skills, and combos, allowing for a variety of playstyles. While the basic mechanics are straightforward, mastering character swapping and timing special abilities can improve efficiency during tougher encounters. The roster is one of the game’s stronger features, featuring numerous familiar characters from the Neptunia franchise. Their personalities, skill animations, and voice lines carry over well into the action format. Experimenting with different pairings adds replay value, encouraging players to find combinations that match their preferred combat rhythm. Visually, the game uses colorful environments and expressive character models, staying faithful to the series’ bright aesthetic. Combat effects are flashy but readable, keeping the on-screen action lively. The soundtrack features energetic tracks that fit the school and zombie-movie theme, contributing to the game’s light and upbeat tone. Mission structure is built around short stages, making the game easy to play in quick sessions. However, repetition becomes noticeable over time due to similar objectives and limited enemy variety. Online co-op adds an extra option for players, though the mode depends heavily on the availability and connection quality of other users. Overall, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies delivers a simple but entertaining action experience for fans of the Neptunia franchise. Its humor, character roster, and fast battles give it charm, even if its repetitive structure and modest mechanical depth limit its broader appeal. For players who enjoy the series’ personality and want a light hack-and-slash title, it serves as a fun, compact spin-off.

This game is really bad, lol. If you're just a big fan of Neptunia and trashy games, you might like it.

Blanc + Neptune versus zombies is a tongue in cheek parody poking fun of just how ridiculous and convoluted the Resident Evil "lore" has gotten with each new entry! Blanc finds herself writing a zombie movie script for the film club at her school with some mysterious force in the background actually turning people into moaning groaning walking cadavers. Is it a virus? Misused share energy? A sealed away demon god? Beats me,fam. There are a lot of deliberate "jump cuts' with a blurred line between what is fiction and what is reality! Eventually it begins making sense but it is a slow-burn in that regard. Chances are the story is inconsequential as to why you are considering picking this one up. The main draw of Blanc Versus Zombies is the character roster which surprisingly is the best one in awhile! You get the usual Blanc,Neptune,Noire,Vert,Rom,Ram,Nepgear, and Uni line-up along with Famitsu,Dangekiko,Tamsoft,Uzume,Plutia, and Peashy. There are also an assortment of "assist characters" that grant beneficial effects when triggered making the whole set up feel like an old school "dream match" fighting game! It would be easy to state if you liked Action Unleashed you'll like Blanc Versus Zombies as it is a sequel in all but name. However, there are notable differences along with the similarities. 1. Blocking and dash evading are much more important as enemy mobs and bosses hit harder. 2. Can go into HDD form almost instantaneously. From then on so long as your specials are hitting enemies it will keep your gauge charged. This is similar to Action Unleashed but it feels more refined here. 3. No clothes ripping mechanic but you are allowed to select outfit variants that are already damaged. 4. Your stats (HP,Power,Defense, and Technique) are essential. Update them with growth points whenever you can! 5. There are new enemy types along with the usual mobs. The zombies that throw their own heads,Frankenstein monster doggos, and re-animated-from-a-museum pompadour sporting delinquent raptors made me smile and chuckle! 6. There is a store for weapons and items as well as a forge for fusing together monster parts into helpful buffs or alterations that can be fastened onto your pew pews or whacking sticks of choice! 7. The overall story is better thought out and has more layers than was found in Action Unleashed. 8. There are conditions to unlock more outfits and actual cheats but sadly there is no challenge tower. 9. Want better combos? Be sure to put more growth into your technique stat! 10. Camera is a nuisance sometimes. 11. Seems easier to increase lily rank between the girls. 12.Co-op for those of you with actual social lives! 13. The tutorial can be brought up anytime in the main hub menu so despite the control inputs being somewhat different you are not left in the dark without a torch. 14. Relatively "short" and though the main campaign was fun I do wish there was more side-quests and other side content beyond smashing harder waves in co-op. 15. The dream-team roster is much better than it was in Action Unleashed. Being able to genocide goofy-goons with Uzume,Plutia, and Peashy was a real treat! (Especially if you already have knowledge of the mainline Neptune rpgs or the Neptune anime.) Tamsoft is a nice newcomer addition as well. Obviously this Vita port ain't "Game of the year material" but it has enough heart, humor, and fan-service to make it worth a pick up,especially if Blanc is your favorite oshi! (Ditto if you appreciate what musou/hack n slashers bring to the table.) The full retail price is just $14.99 and on sale it goes for much cheaper! PS: Kind of strange how C-Sha isn't in this one as it is a mirthful love letter to Capcom's survival horror catalog!
