For a long time now I’ve always preferred the touhou fan made shmups compared to the originals simply because they always seem to put more visual effort. Now of course, the thing that truly matters is the gameplay. If you’re familiar with the previous danmaku festivals or a different game like blue devil you’ll know what im referring to. In terms of gameplay the harder difficulties (including ultra) really aren’t that difficult compared to lunatics in other games. You could if you wanted change ultra default to ultra hardcore with modifiers but it just takes away your resources. If this doesn’t bother you then the game really is enjoyable but it personally bothered me because I felt once finished, there's not much for me to go towards considering im not much of a score attacker in games like these. With fan made games like these, you’ll see that sometimes bosses' patterns are a little gimmicky in the sense that they could be puzzle-like instead of simply relying on dodging. It’s always cool to see devs think outside the box. It’s definitely something I’d recommend giving a try to those who are slightly interested in touhou but afraid of it being somewhat intimidating. This game is quite inviting for everyone.

Incredible audiovisual feast. I'm a huge CAVE and danmaku fan who never got into Touhou---the enemies all look the same, the levels drag on for too long, and I don't like ZUN's music. This game, however, tweaks every little thing I don't love about Touhou into something that I absolutely do. There's visual variety, snappy level pacing, and beautiful, thoughtfully-remixed music that calls back to Imperishable Night in fun ways. FDF 3 also builds upon the stunning boss patterns that make Touhou special, resulting in a spectacle beyond what you'd normally expect out of a shmup. Genuinely, bravo. This game is an achievement that punches above its weight class and price tag in all the ways that matter. If you're a shmup fan, I'd highly recommend FDF 3.

With the addition of Ultra mode (& other modifiers) this is an easy recommend for anyone interested in a shmup that has extremely polished visuals and incorporates more arcade-type level design compared to the usual touhou fare. Ultra is easier than most games on Lunatic, but if that isn't a deal breaker this game is amazing. Hoping it also ends up having lasting appeal for score attack players etc. Visual presentation is crazy impressive, reminding me of how something like Devil Blade Reboot stood out from the rest on release. I like the stage designs compared to what you'd expect from Touhou with large enemies being destroyed back to back, bullet cancels and some maze-like sections. The main game has less gimmicky (i.e. difficult to understand) bullet patterns than FDF2 while EX stage bosses are back to MMO type gimmicks. I wonder if the devs played some Rabbit & Steel. Apart from the lower than average max difficulty everything is really fun and that's a non-issue especially for beginners to these games.

I understand that people want difficult games when they speak of Touhou, and i respect their point of view. But, as a casual gamer, this game was fun. Insanely fun. Can't wait to beat the game on other difficulties once i get to my PC. And, to developers; Thanks for creating this great game !

Edit 2: it seems that the frame issues are no longer a thing on my end, so that was addressed pretty quickly So I'll start with that as a big fan of the previous installments I was so sure that with the radio silence for a long time this game would never be a thing, but after a good few years it was announced this year and released and I didn't expect it to surpass my expectations. Firstly the devs actually listened to the feedback from the demo! (I think, I might be misremembering stuff) but at least the shot types are a lot more interesting now and you can switch between them for each character, the shooting part feels really good and the stages are also designed in pretty unique ways so they feel awesome to overcome. The previous games I'd say were also really good introductions to the shmup genre as a whole, but this game also now has proper tutorials and uhh A LOT of leeway (you get a lot of resources and a barrier on demand as a safety net like in the 2nd game) said barrier on demand "Frenzy" might be a bit TOO easy to get though with the crystal consumables which you get plenty of (maybe it's balanced around stuff like Hard and Lunatic being pretty bonkers in terms of patterns?) The game looks great, even more flashy than the 2nd which I didn't expect was possible, perhaps too flashy at the wildfire segment in stage 4 (game gets really laggy there for me) music is also excellent, probably best yet with really good style (like fdf1) and amazing sync (like fdf2) And most importantly what I like the most about these games, the bullet patterns and their flavour, still best in the genre imo, can't wait to see what the extra stages have to offer in that regard as well. Overall reallyyyyy good, if you ever wanted to get into shmups, but found them unwelcoming or too difficult I'd highly recommend this one and if you're a 2hu fan (which you probably are) it's still an incredible eye and ear treat Edit: Extra stage is absolute insanity in every meaning of this word, loved it, very very very creative
