TLDR: price still worth it for the main game, but wouldn’t bother with playing the expac unless the dev reworks the balance. My review is gonna be split into two parts, because I don't feel it fair to judge the base game and expansion together. Base Game: I enjoyed it a lot. Great music in the fights, genuinely unique art style I've seen no other game use, and rpg maker's combat is tweaked so more of the player's input matters (as in if you miss, it's your fault). Story leaves a bit to be desired, as some elements are explicitly told to the player through notes, or are so vague you wonder why it was even there. There isn't much to the story that actually makes me think about what any of it could mean because there isn't enough there to prompt me to. It sets up a neat AU WW1 world, but aside from letting you loose in it doesn’t seem to do much else. FnH style adjacent combat, but it's infinitely more fair because it doesn't have a random RNG "I'm just gonna kill you now", just a "I'm gonna take a lot of your health now" and the latter is far more manageable to deal with. Expac: It was awful. It basically ruined all the good will the rest of the game had. It clearly gives the impression that you’re supposed to sneak around the enemies, but when they can see you around corners you should be safe behind, or (in the whale bones case) are always steadily making their way toward you with inconsistent results in squeezing by them, you're always going to end up in a fight somewhere. I couldn’t even get out of the first area it’s so difficult, and only managed to get as far as running away from the creature after getting the bunker key. I tried to sneak past the whale to desperately get the only other cow skin on the map and it killed me. High difficulty ceilings that are satisfying are hard to make, and for me the expac fails completely at that. Making the player weaker on top of increasing the health and damage of the enemies is player hostile to the point of being nearly impossible. And before anyone notes, yes the strings, or body parts with strings attached are weak points, but even those are damage sponges. I can maybe survive one fight with the soldiers, but the lack of resources ensures I’m not surviving another. Each string takes somewhere around 150-200 damage, and the player can only do 20-30 damage with the starting weapon, so it could take between 5-6 turns to take the soldiers down. However, those soldiers can attack three times in a turn doing the same amount of damage (and more with their gun if they shoot) which means they're more likely to kill you sooner than you can kill them. The whale bones have four strings and are essentially impossible to beat in the expac with the aforementioned spongage. The balance was perfect in the base game, and it feels like the dev just threw that out to make it arbitrarily more difficult and unfair. Like, the resources being scarcer and equipment being locked up is one thing, I can live with those as that was enough to make things more difficult. Actively screwing up the combat is just too much.

genuinely a really good game, pretty clearly influenced by fear and hunger 2. obviously not perfect, definitely needs some balancing fixes. (at the time of writing this) the melee is way better than the guns, and the guns need reloading after every time you use them so theres no real point in using the guns. melee needs a nerf and the guns need to be buffed considering its only $4.50 (aud), i would absolutely recommend this game, well worth the price, just needs a couple fixes here and there edit: forgot to mention this but im really loving the background music, fits the theme of the game really well

Best three dollars I've ever spent on a game. Amazing OST, multiple classes, higher difficulty levels. not to mention that the final boss was AWESOME! The specific songs aren't posted yet so: In the normal battles it plays Deserted by Desolate Thoughts, alongside Bright Moon by Desolate Thoughts and, in the boss fight it plays Ghost by Desolate Thoughts.

Trench Face is a really fascinating game! I recommend the game as it is fun with it's dismemberment styled combat that rewards removing each limb, it's simple but great story and is visually amazing, but there are issues with the game itself currently that I will include. 1: it's very easy to get lost and walk in circles looking for where you need to go next. unique props/landmarks could be added to help a player with navigating the environment that otherwise looks the same everywhere. if it's intended to be easy to get lost in, it's not at all fun. I ended up skipping some parts of each section (even if it had unique loot) simply because I couldn't be bothered to try and find it again. 2: a lack of enemy variety, this isn't a bad thing per say for the scale this game is, but you'll be fighting the exact same 2 enemies for most of the game with 2 more showing up only in the last area. even just 1 additional enemy type could help with this issue. 3: the gimmick for ending A's final boss wasn't initially clear. it had an obvious weak point once I realised this, but the first couple of attempts I had was spent by just hitting the main torso thinking that's all I could do. it looked like one enemy without limbs like the first phase, so I fought it as such (maybe the first phase also lacking limbs to target added to this confusion).
