I love racing games. I am also terrible at them. Online I’m basically the pace car, and offline I win by bolting enough upgrades onto my car that I finish with a 20+ second lead like I just discovered warp speed. That’s my whole strategy. Improve the car, not the driver. Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2 laughed in my face. This game is mean. You crash constantly, and every time you restart a race you lose 10% of your potential winnings. Restart too much and you’re racing for pocket change. If you want to get better bikes, you actually have to get better yourself. What a scam. Switching to manual was the big moment. I always pick automatic because I’m a casual fan who just wants to mash the throttle and pray. Here, shifting is the real game. You listen to the engine, shift at the right time, lean with the bike, and drop gears to slow down. Do it right and sparks fly when the pegs scrape the road and you feel like a hero. Do it wrong and you’re skidding across the pavement like a true Gixxer squid. Way better than riding a Harley, which is basically paying thirty grand to sit on a chrome recliner that makes potato noises. First-person is another level. You don’t blink. You can’t. The speed is insane, and on ultrawide it feels like sticking your head out of a jet engine. It also makes everything harder, but someday I’d like to be good enough to race that way all the time. Right now it mostly feels like holding on for dear life while the game tries to punt me into orbit. I bought this because I’ve fallen in love with motorcycles this year, and it’s part of what drew me in. The game nails that mix of excitement and terror. Sometimes you feel like Rossi, other times you’re “laying her down” in a parking lot. Either way, the asphalt is always waiting to teach you a lesson. In the end, Ride on the Edge 2 is frustrating, punishing, and hilarious in how quickly it humbles you. But it’s also fast, rewarding, and surprisingly addictive. If you’ve ever wanted a racing game that doesn’t hand out trophies for participation, this is it. It will bruise your ego, it will empty your wallet in career mode, and it will make you grin like an idiot when you finally nail a lap. My only note for improvement? Make it more like Road Rash 2 on the Sega Genesis, so I can finally punch that guy I’ve been chasing for six laps straight.

great game here. My father rode this track in his youth during the 50s, non competitively. now at 85 yrs Old, he can watch me ride the same track, without dying. video games bring the generations together, p.s he was not so keen on DOOM however.

I'm a professional motorcyclist with over 30 years on the road and this gets close to the feeling of taking a real bike through a corner on the edge of the tyre. The motorcycle control interface cannot be simulated, unlike for a car, so it is an abstract experience but the basics are there: get the bike onto the arc for the corner and don't open the throttle fully until you've finished leaning the bike over. Obviously the physics are crude and very forgiving but it wouldn't be much fun otherwise. Oh, and it has the Suter MMX500, which is like the best bike, ever.

In my humble opinion, to this date TT-IoM2 is the best bike sim around. It is sort of impossible to make a proper bike sim that makes sense due to its interface. Riding a bike is a very physical, full body contact thing, even if you just do some dumb go-straight highway riding. Opposed to cars that have a pretty simple interface (wheel, pedals, shifter) that is rather easy to replicate - a bike is very complicated. However, the feel and mindset can be captured. That's where for example Ride series is great, or TT-IoM series in case. But you can use a gamepad only that is a very limited and nervous tool to control a bike, even if you use a good one. Bike games don't bother to include racing wheel support as it is an absurd idea and a blasphemy. During the 2020 covid lockdown the real race was off. I'm a fan so I watched the official Isle of Man virtual TT race with real-life TT competitors in the teams like Peter Hickman, Jamie Coward, Davey Todd or Mark Miller. Despite realising that these guys are beasts with a game controller, too - I noticed Mark Miller using a proper car sim rig to control the bike. He even used the bumper view. Well, not as if bikes had bumpers. Wait a minute I said, what? I tried it and - wow. TT-IoM2 accepted my wheel as a controller. There is a catch as it resets the wheel to 540 degrees during every starting of the game so I have to manually set it to 140 degrees but that's not a big trade-off for the experience. The wheel puts this game on a whole different level of joy and immersion. And of course it's a blasphemy. On the other hand, if Mark Miller, a fierce real-life TT competitor uses a wheel for a bike sim - well, I think you absolutely should, too. By that matter, there are only 3 other games I've met so far that allowed controlling bikes with a wheel: The Crew 1 with surprisingly fun physics and active Force FeedBack for bikes that unfortunately turned brain-dead in 2024 when UBIsoft killed its servers; The Crew 2 that is a much better overall game - coupled with some incredibly dumb physics created for gamepad users in mind I guess; The Crew Motorfest that sort of restored some enjoyable physics with a FFB wheel for cars but bikes are weird to the point of disappointment. TT-IoM 2 is hard AF, the game punishes even miniscule mistakes and it's a wonderful thing. Also, it feels rewarding AF after a good run. If things align and you ride (er... drive) yourself into the zone then considering the sense of speed and rhythm no other sim comes close in my opinion. What else... Yes, I enjoyed the career mode quite much. Without any bells'n'whistles, it shows the journey of an Irish road racer's season while preparing to the main event of the year: the legendary Isle of Man TT. Damn it would have been great to become a bike racer at some point. https://youtu.be/h6EgzeOCB3U?si=M7ptq2nexMCRQ5sl

These two additional years of development will have made an excellent motorcycle game. TT Isle of Man 2 is more successful on all fronts. It is above all the new content and the additional features of a real Tourist Trophy season that gives it a more ecumenical aspect. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3330468508
