Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion isn't just a game, it's an experience. I am a fan of goofy games with goofy titles, so naturally, I had to pick this title up. It's a short and sweet game, not necessarily the most memorable thing I've played, but it was entertaining nonetheless. The humor in the game hits just right, but don't let that fool you. There is a deeper story to uncover that I didn't really see coming (partially because I wasn't really thinking much about it). I do wish that the game was a bit longer, but I suppose that's what the sequel, "Turnip Boy Robs A Bank," is for. The endless roguelite mode that the game offers upon completion could honestly be better. There are more memorable endless running game modes in other games that I've played, but the modifiers applied to the enemies can keep you on your toes. Again, it's not bad, but it's not the greatest. It is required for a handful of achievements for you achievement hunters, but it's not insufferable. I generally had fun with it, but once more, it could've used some more time in the oven. If you're looking for a goofy adventure game, I would recommend this on sale. You won't be disappointed with this title if you pick it up. Plus, if you're looking to add a new title to your "Perfect Games" category on your profile, this is an easy one. I was able to collect all the achievements in about 3 hours. Overall Judgments: - Time it took for me to complete the game, start to credits: 2.5 hours - Difficulty: Very easy - Gameplay: Cozy, relaxing - Taxes: Evaded (for legal reasons, this is a joke) - Oceanbell Rating: 8/10
As someone newer to Zelda-like games, this felt like the perfect introduction to the genre. Simple to pick up and engaging enough to keep me hooked the whole way through! What started off as a lighthearted story quickly turned into something way more layered and twisty than I was expecting. The humor hits consistently, and the plot actually kept me guessing, which I didn’t see coming from a game about a tax-evading turnip. Even the end credits deserve a shoutout. It was super wholesome, relaxing, and genuinely worthwhile to sit through instead of skipping. I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique indie game or an easy entry point into Zelda-style adventures. Thank you for this treasure and one day I hope to try the other Turnip Boy games!
I would like to emphasize that our sweet little turnip boy did not, in fact, commit tax evasion, but was merely guilty of simple tax delinquency, according to §7201 and §7203 of the U.S.C., since he did not intentionally and unlawfully underfile taxes, but simply failed to pay them. That aside, great game, very realistic (if any vegetable were to commit tax delinquency, it would be a turnip).
