Ultimate Fishing Sim 2 is way more relaxing than it has any right to be. You just pick a spot and it kind of pulls you in. There’s a lot more depth to it than it first looks like too—different fish, gear, locations, all that stuff actually matters once you get into it. It’s slow in a good way. You can just chill and play it without needing to sweat anything.
Listen, for the price, this is a great game. I got it on sale. I got early demo access back in the day when this first went on Steam. Pros: Nice underwater vegetation. Fishing seems to work well. I was surprised that rods and equipment could actually break. Graphics look alright (keeping price in mind). But it is no UE5 style graphics. Levelling up system...I was suprised. Cons: Where are the boats? Why are the maps so small? The camera under water...whats the deal with that? Why can't I change the angle. Am i missing something? That is all I will write for now. I need to play more. For the price, you can't go wrong.
I've been playing roughly 4 hours at the time of this review and so far I like this game. Sure, it does have its problems, but I haven't hit anything that's game breaking. Also, this game is not pay to win like Planet Fishing is. There isn't a premium currency in sight in this game, afaik you can unlock everything with the in game currency which is earned through game play. Progress is a little slow at first until you get some levels and you can buy better fishing gear, then the bigger fish start rolling in and with it more money eared per fishing net. There is also an aquarium system where you can breed fish, I was actually kind of disappointed you can't use it to display trophy fish you've caught and keep them alive instead of putting them on a plaque on the wall in your house. But yes, there is a trophy system too and you keep them in your in game house on a plaque on the wall. There is a multiplayer option here, but it seems to be more for friends playing together as there are no official servers. Players have to host their own servers for multiplayer, and the server is only for one fishing location at a time. Not a fault against the game, I think it's cool you can play with friends whenever. Graphics aren't terrible but they're not UE5 quality either. I really like the underwater camera feature, I find myself switching to it often to check whats around and how deep I can go, etc. There are issues here and there, like sometimes the fish will spasm and glitch when you pull it out of the water, but again nothing game breaking. There is an official discord for this game, it's not crazy active but the developer has not abandoned this game. And afaik, it's developed by only a hand full of people.
