This is the love letter to this VN , Imo is rare to read/play a game that you want to reapet again. The series itself is a love letter to all mysteries novels written before . Unfortunately i can't say more about the characters and the story without spoiling so will just skip that part (btw the story is an absolute rollercoaster of emotion) The music in this game is veryyyyyy GOOOOOD BATTLER-san :)) Even if i played with over 200 hours cuz i am slow reader i did love very much everything about this VN is a truly Golden experience for the new readers and for the old experience too . My top 5 characters from Umineko are: 1. Beatrice , 2 Battler (they kinda have same possition in my mind ) , 3 Ange , 4 Erika Furudo and 5 Lambdadelta For those who readed The house in fata morgana VN i will say this both the visual novels are great and I hope both the fans will like Fata Morgana and Umineko bc both of them are masterpiece

Finally got to read the second arc and I honestly loved AND despised it. I obviously have a lot to praise. Firstly, I got to enjoy the "Umineko vibe" again, which is something I was very looking forward to. I adored the chaos, twists and mysteries, especially with the addition of new characters (Dlanor and Erika in particular <3) This arc also greatly deepened my affection towards Bern and Lambda, I'm glad they got much attention. Moreover, the expansion of the soundtrack is immaculate, Umineko has likely the most impressive OST I've encountered so far. Overall this arc provides plenty of fascinating information and entertainment, but reaching the credits of the 8th episode somehow didn't make me feel satisfied at all, as if nothing got revealed lol. I understood the general gist of what happened throughout the whole story and was highly impressed by a lot of details and connections, plus reading some explanations and theories of others helped me comprehend everything better, but I was kind of expecting more. I wasn't too fond of the 8th chapter in general, I was hoping for a different "presentation" sort of. However most of my complaints mainly stem from my personal preferences; I mostly enjoyed Umineko for the creative murder mysteries, evil witches who are cruel for the sake of fun, and ridiculously dramatic fights, therefore the large focus on relationships and emotions bored me a little, although I was still intrigued by some of it. Altogether it's a wonderful and memorable story and I'm glad to have experienced it!

I'll be honest, when I first finished Umineko, my initial reaction to the Answer Arc was, “That’s it? That’s how it ends?” I was frustrated, even a little angry. For a while afterward, I rated it a 5 or 6 out of 10. It felt unsatisfying. But something strange happened: I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I kept revisiting the story in my mind, pondering the solution, the characters, and the narrative structure. Gradually, it started to click. That frustration turned into curiosity, and that curiosity into awe. What seemed confusing at first revealed itself to be layered, deliberate, and deeply meaningful. That’s the genius of Umineko. It lingers. It challenges you to reflect, to question, and to piece together your own version of the truth—so long as it doesn’t violate the Red Truth. That idea alone felt like a brilliant game between author and reader: a battle of intellect and interpretation. The more I thought about it, the more it grew on me, until it eventually became a 10/10 in my eyes. Even now, I still find myself surprised by the small details I missed or reinterpreted. The depth of Umineko is staggering. And the music? Easily top-tier—arguably the best soundtrack in the entire visual novel medium. Tracks like “Hope,” “Far,” and “Thanks For All People” still hit me emotionally to this day. My thoughts might still feel jumbled when I try to talk about this story, but one thing is clear: Umineko left a lasting impact on me. I still get emotional when I remember the Magic Ending of Episode 8. It’s an unforgettable experience—one I’m truly grateful I stuck with. It took me months to finish the whole series, but all I can say is my time was well spent.

If you've ever hated your family, or tried to cut them out of your life, or felt spiteful towards them for wanting you to better yourself, this is the VN for you. It explains love in terms even those who'd never loved can understand, and it shows that those people you think are just nasty assholes have reasons and causes for being the way they are. It also shows those people have good qualities, qualities you simply might never see because the chance was never afforded to you, and it's okay to dream about how things might've been if you'd seen their lives lived differently or if you'd seen them when they were younger and better. It's a feeling that's not easy to put into words, but I love the message of open love it conveys and this story's respect for the power that the memories of the deceased carry in one's heart. On a personal note, this VN was basically the direct cause of me patching things up with my estranged father in the last few years of his life, letting me look past all the bullshit and fighting and just see a person who needed me at that time. I'll always be grateful to Ryukishi for teaching me that before it was too late. Even when I was thinking back about how much it influenced the decision just now I remembered I literally read an Umineko quote during my eulogy so lol cringe Basically this is a very powerful fucking story.

Umineko Chiru, also known as the Answer Arcs (Episodes 5-8), is a peculiar case in that it contains some of the highest highs of the series but also some of my least favorite parts. Similar to Episodes 1-4, or the Question Arcs, I wasn't very into the series when I first read it in the late 2000s when the fan translations were being released episode by episode. Thanks to Umitweak, now upgraded to 07th Mod, the PS3 sprites and fully voiced acting made things much more enjoyable on a re-read. The manga adaptation also shed more light on aspects of the series that weren't in the visual novel, which I'll discuss later. As far as characters go, the Answer Arcs introduced Erika, who is by far my favorite character in Umineko. Even during my first readthrough of me "hate-reading" of the series, Erika was far more entertaining than everyone else, being a savage troll who reveled in NOT being a good person. Will, the protagonist in Episode 7, was also a much better protagonist than Battler. He was competent while still being emotionally perceptive enough to see through the "hidden messages" of the Ushiromiya family. Sadly, most characters besides those two were an overall downgrade for me. Outside of Natsuhi and Shkanon getting their moments in Episodes 5 and 6, and the "culprit" reveal of the Tea Party Episode 7, I wasn't a fan of the reveals of a bunch of the other characters from the Question Arcs. In Episodes 7 and 8, some reveals came too late or were too vague in the visual novel (though this was fixed in the manga adaptation). Battler and Beatrice were particularly disappointing since they are central to the story. Battler's "flip-flop" felt abrupt, and his preachiness without explaining what he learned made me like him less (I already had mixed feelings about his idiot shounen personality). Beatrice faded more into a supporting role; while her reveals are interesting on paper, Ryuukishi07 chose not to reveal details in the visual novel—you have to read the manga for that. Ange received both a huge upgrade and downgrade simultaneously. In theory, I liked her role regarding morality—"caring too much about a tragedy you can't change"—but it focused too much on this aspect to the point of being preachy. If Ryuukishi07 had combined the mystery reveals from the manga with Ange learning to cope, Episode 8 would have been significantly better. In a cast already bloated with characters, not giving enough time to develop human characters resulted in way too many forgettable meta/magic characters introduced in the Answer Arcs. Many of them are even more forgettable than those already present in the Question Arcs. As for the plot, it's still similar to the original, a solid mystery, but with additional reveals that were quite great! The implications in Episodes 5 and 6 were particularly strong. While Episode 7 was mostly boring and vague, The Tea Party stood out as easily the best part of the entire series. A certain reveal in the MANGA of Episode 8 was very well done. However, Umineko's Answer Arcs continue Ryuukishi07's unfortunate trend of godawful pacing. Many scenes contained excessive fluff that could easily be cut, especially during flashbacks. Even the magic fights felt ridiculous when Battler had already discovered the "truth," making them seem pointless; only Erika's presence made things remotely entertaining. As I've mentioned multiple times, the manga adaptation finally reveals truths that should have made Episode 8's conclusion godly and helped make re-reading the visual novel fully worthwhile. However, that's ONLY in the manga. In the visual novel, Episode 8 is perhaps THE biggest waste of time for 95% of its story. The beginning "Halloween Party" dragged on too long, with the rest of the episode featuring some of the worst and most pointless magic fights in the series. The VN version never explicitly states the actual truth; instead, it goes on WAY TOO LONG about some preachy nonsense about focusing too hard on tragedy and moving on. Despite all my complaints, Umineko's Answer Arcs VN version is ultimately still enjoyable and entertaining—especially once you know the full truth through re-reading and understanding what Ryuukishi07 aimed for. The music remains god-tier and is by far the best aspect of the series, enhancing mystery and emotional scenes significantly. It's just a shame that Ryuukishi07 still struggles with pacing issues and seems to have adopted an obnoxiously preachy tone in these arcs. If he had just executed the end of the story better and had an editor to cut out 50% of the fluff, I could have joined many others in praising this as one of the best visual novels of all time. As it stands now, I can only call the series... good-ish. 7.5/10
