For my fellow Warframe enthusiasts, this is Mesa Prime Simulator and it is glorious. For my fellow roguelite bullet heaven enthusiasts, this is Serious Sam except you can wield fourteen miniguns at once with a shoulder mounted lightsaber launcher and a magic frog. Or any other combination of insane weaponry and ordnance. Tons of stuff to unlock, even more levels and achievements to grind, and an absolutely worthy purchase whether it's on sale or not.

I cant believe how good this is. If you ever wanted to play roguelike Serious Sam this is basicly the closest thing. There are so many enemies on the screen and 14 weapons at once lmao

This is essentially the video game equivalent of a popcorn flick, and I mean that in a mostly positive way. Wearing its influences of Doom and the Bullet Heaven genre (namely Vampire Survivors) on its sleeve, Vampire Hunters is a pretty simple title to grasp and play, though like the latter inspiration, it can get hectic later on in its levels, especially with any self-imposed challenges. Even with its skill trees, constellation system, and unlocks, this game isn't necessarily the deepest thing out there. But it can be an excellent way to kill a half an hour at a time if the loop it provides scratches that particular itch for you. I wouldn't recommend it at its full price of $15 USD, sadly, unless more content is introduced, unless you were just a Boomer Shooter enthusiast. Try to nab it when it's on sale if you can.

I really wish mixed reviews were a thing. I do enjoy this game, but in small doses. This is a PAINFULLY grind heavy game and each and every round you play is going to take 15-40 minutes (menu-ing adds a lot of time). There is no lack of content, but the game has a really bad habit of overstaying its welcome by requiring you to do a lot of extra runs with arbitrary rules (often times not even challenging, just tedious) to gain unlockables. You can beat the game in a couple hours if that's all you're aiming for. You want to "complete" it? Well... Look at my play time. There's not a lot of idling in there, I promise. Again, in small doses, the gameplay is fun, like any Vampire Survivors adjacent game, but the sheer grind will burn you out quick if you're not careful. Any runs lasting longer than 15 minutes tend to become incredibly boring very quickly after the thrill of being overpowered to Hell and back wears off. There is plenty of weapon variety (somewhere around 100 weapons to chose from, I didn't count) and 6 characters with differing skills and abilities to spice things up, but this only goes so far when you come to realize a handful of particular weapons are far and away better overall than all the rest and 2 of the characters (the first, and the last) have far, FAR better mobility and special skills than the rest of the cast. The gameplay is an arena based FPS Vampire Survivors. If you've played that, I promise you, that's all the information you need and what you're thinking in your head probably isn't far off from the reality. The main mode is an arena based rouge-like survival, with all upgrades choices being random and your only goal being to stay alive to the 30 minute mark (15 in a speed-up mode). There is a secondary mode called "classic" which is much the same as the main game, but in completely linear levels that are much shorter with a heavier emphasis on pacing yourself to stay alive while being hounded by an encroaching fog to keep you from taking too long. I personally liked this mode much more, but it has far less content that the "survival" mode that makes up the main game. These levels were the perfect length to get that thrill of power from a build coming together, and capping off with a boss fight to end the level at just the right time to keep it from getting stale. Control wise, the game is really tight and responsive. I cannot recall a single time where I felt like I was done in by the controls, only my own mistakes. One big thing I can give credit for is the size of the soundtrack and the absolute deluge of accessibility and control/display customizations. If the guns take up too much of your screen? Flip the option to make it 1 gun that still works like 5. Don't want the level up screen popping up and interrupting gameplay every 5 seconds? Turn on "Manual Level-Up" and pop it when you're good and ready. Can't remember to fire your secondaries because they cooldown too quick in all the chaos? Set em to auto and they'll fire on their own when something gets in range. The list goes on, and on. It's actually really nice. The soundtrack has many, many tracks, some pretty good, some decent, none I can say are outright bad. All of it fits the tone and helps keep the ambiance going, and unlike far too many survivor games (Slime 3k for example), you're not listening to the same 1 or 2 tracks for hours on end. Story? Wrong game bud. All in all, this is a nice game in bursts, and its a good "mindless" kind of game as well. My biggest issue with it more than anything is simply that it is way too grind heavy. I know that at the time of writing there is another update planned, which means even more content, so those of you in the future, tread lightly. By the time you're reading this, VH may be so bloated with achievements that it may not even be worth trying to "finish" it anymore. I had the head start of Early Access and I still felt overwhelmed in that regard when the full release came to be. I do recommend it, but don't expect to complete it any time soon if you want to keep your sanity in-tact.
