I initially loved ODDCORE's aesthetic, then briefly wrote it off as a lazy attempt to cash in on the trending "liminal space/anomaly" hype, but I eventually locked in and stopped overthinking and started appreciating the game for what it is. It's got smooth movement, great power scaling, high run variety, and unique enemies. The whole "countdown to purge" mechanic adds a brilliant sense of urgency that I wouldn't normally get in any other roguelike shooter. I sometimes stream it for my friends, and they can't process what's happening. TLDR: Definitely takes a little getting used to, but I highly recommend it.
Such a good game, WOULD spend my whole 10 years on this earth to play it, and I only got ONE year left. Didn't expect to shoot me in the head with uhh the cool things it got. I truly do love the game tho!!! Edit: idk why im doing this, but I kinda forgot stuff to say. I love the guns in this game, although some do feel meh to me... probably cuz it's not my style, but they all seem unique enough. The nailgun is my baby, would NEVER get rid of it.. (yoyo goes hard tho). Should totally add multiplayer, cuz I love to play with my friends lol. BEST GAME 2026
GOOD STUFF: I LOVE the idea of a roguelike taking place in a liminal space, I think it's a lot more interesting than most settings you see in other roguelikes, and the idea that you're on a constant timelimit, and you can use your currency as an offhand weapon is really nice! I also appreciate all the shmovement you can do, and how it actually feels fast. NERDY RANT STUFF: That being said, there's kinda one jarring problem I have with the game currently- the upgrade system. It's not the fact that it's a random slot machine between stats, but rather that the damage upgrades are always a %, and not a flat value. At first glance, it might not seem like a problem, but... guns that have a low base damage quickly fall off in viability, and that's kinda the majority of the guns. I feel myself ALWAYS bringing the sniper rifle, cause after room 30+, it can actually make hp bars move. I'm fully aware of the red card upgrade, and the +50% dmg buff with it certainly does help, but it still doesn't change how guns with a higher base dmg just get more out of the upgrades than other guns, which discourages me from trying out other guns seriously. MILD STUFF, NOT RLY THAT IMPORTANT: So this is mostly just personal opinion stuff, so I'm just gonna list them off rly quick. 1. I wish there was more levels that required parkour to get around, cause the movement IS nice and feels good to do, but it's main use is to just make a gap between the mob following you. 2. More lore! I love backroom stuff, so I'd actually love to know why the bosses are all here, if we can ever find that perfect variant that got mentioned in the tutorial, etc. 3. The final boss is lackluster! All the other bosses have some gimmick to them, while the last one really is just a damage sponge. Also his name implies a lot, and it feels like there'd be so much more to them given their position. 4. Make it more moddable! I wanna put in my own custom stickers... (That all being said, I know the game is still early access, so I'm fully willing to cut it some slack, and I still really do like this game. <3)
